: Throughout the course of human existence, man has grown from being part of the natural world to moving to sense of separation from the world that creating man’s existence. We have previously lived in harmony with the natural world, learning from it and symbiotically using it. With the emergence of agriculture, man began to pull away from the natural world moving to the development of habitats that give no context to the land. As we move further onward to the technological age, how can we begin to mend our rift with the natural world?
: Western culture is dominated by the urban realm and an emphasis on visual perception, enacting a further proliferation between the self and the natural world. As environmental distress and ecological devastation continue to increase in severity, a cultural enlightenment will be necessary to awake society’s collective unconscious as to the human species’ role in the world. By using ecopsychology as a primer for architectural design, an inclusive, sensorial experience can be created not only in a conscious state but also in the deeper recesses of the psyche. Through this design philosophy, architecture can take its role as an ecopsychological catalyst in the rekindling of the collective unconscious.
