Michael Meredith, a principal of MOS Architects and Assistant Professor of Architectural Design at the Princeton University School of Architecture presented a public lecture at the school's Gui Gallery Auditorium on November 18th.
Meredith presented a number of projects that MOS has both completed and are in progress. MOS is known for using repeated simple geometries to create complex spaces and organizations but perhaps they are better known for their provocative drawing style that blurs the line between 2-D projection and 3-D axon. Meredith presented a number of house projects including House # 5. This house is particularly interesting in the current discussion being had in the Graduate Baumer seminar following Robert Somol's practice of architectural theory. The seminar is currently interested in discussing and parsing out ideas about form vs. shape, something that Michael Meredith clearly addresses in the design for House # 5.
Meredith also touched on a series the firm is working on called "Reproductions". In the firm's words these productts are "a series of reproductions of obscure and minor objects by architects we admire". To check out the series visit their website at http://shop.mos-office.net/.
