The Knowlton School welcomed one of its alumni, Heather Roberge to give a public lecture last month. The lecture came as a bit of a double feature, as Roberge recently exhibited an installation in the school's Banvard Gallery.
Roberge is the founder and principal of Murmur: Architecture and Environments. She is a faculty member at UCLA holding positions of Associate Vice Chair of the Department of Architecture and Urban Design and Director of the Undergraduate program in Architectural studies. Roberge graduated with her Masters in Architecture from The Ohio State University.
Roberge's professional and academic work looks at the structural, atmospheric and spatial potential of the digital and its impact on the theory and practice of building. Roberge lecture showed a number of projects that expand on approaches to material, craft and manufacturing. The projects use these techniques to push forward building envelopes. For a great example of this, take a look at Murmer's Succulent House http://murmur-la.com/commissioned/succulent-house/.
