This is a renovation project of an 25-years old summer house. The existing parcel is located near the forest area, and it`s a medium sized parcel, with a sloped terrain.
The building finishes and appliances needed replacement and refurbishment. Also a concept of extending the building for some additional space has been brought up during the preliminary talks.
The building will be extended in the west direction. This design decision was made because of two factors: fire regulations in regard of forest proximity, and the slope of the terrain. Extension will be made on the first and second floor by demolition of gable wall. The layout of the basement stays as it is. Two additional spaces are created by the designed form of the new elements: a suspended terrace above the ground, with a large roof overhang to prevent overheating, and an open garage space under the extended floors.
Because of the poor insulation of the original walls, and roof the whole building is stripped down to raw state, and insulated from the start. Exterior walls are to be clad with timber, painted in black color as in traditional vernacular architecture. And the existing steel sheet tile will be replaced with clay flat tile giving the building a really refreshed look.
