Barczewo, PL
The parcel for this project was a challenging one. Because of a significant vertical difference in altitude of the terrain, the designed house had to be well placed in the scarp. The building, even though it’s a single family house, has a quite extensive functional programme, reaching to 315 sq meters of Net area.
The lowest level is dedicated for garage, hobby and service rooms. Main living level is on the first floor, while the highest stands for a sleeping zone.
The orientation of the building was restrained by difficult terrain, narrow parcel and restrictions of the local code. Even though it`s far from perfect, the living room is bright and roomy, mainly because of large windows and bright colors of the finishing surfaces.
Main material for the façade – a concrete brick - was chosen to reinforce the feeling of a massive, weatherproof and stable shell. It is contradicted with soft, and warm wooden cladding of gable walls. The roof is covered with dark gray clay tile, which blends-in well with the city landscape.
