The design stage started in 2007. The house was finished by June 2009. It’s a comfortable house, designed to fulfill the needs of a 4 person family living In a countryside.
The context of the project is a typical village layout of Warmia region. From the beginning of the project every effort was made to keep the seamless character of the village, that wasn`t disrupted by chaotic new buildings.
Spatial solutions incorporated in the building refer to the building traditions of Warmia and Mazury region, while continuing them in both urban and architectural scale. Since the location of the parcel in the context of the village was dedicated for traditional barn buildings, the new building was inspired by a barn-shed type of building with a combined structure of wood and brick. This is shown in broken facade of the building, part brick and part wooden. The building has some energy-efficient features.
The only source of heat for the building is a ground source heat pump with a delivered power of 10kW. The pump is a closed-loop system, with four vertical boreholes that go to a depth of 55m. The concept of interior utilizes a double-height living room, which with a help of sunshading portal contributes in reducing overheating in the summer with no additional expenses for air conditioning or cooling systems.
