About STUDIOCAHS: 

StudioCAHS is a small architectural design firm with a presence in NY and London. Founded in 2019 by Caterina Heil Stewart, the firm’s suite of capabilities is guided by craftsmanship, personalization, preservation, and conservation when possible. At its core is an emphasis on the value of time, material, visual movement, and harmony, as well as a commitment to composing spaces and curating furniture pieces that stand the test of time. 

About the Role: 

The senior architectural designer’s main responsibility will be to report to the principal and work with the junior team. They will be responsible for developing, detailing, and coordinating construction documentation. The intermediate architectural designer will be able to identify the areas of need and lead efforts in solving project problems. The ideal candidate will also have had experience leading in other residential projects.

Responsibilities: 

LEADERSHIP QUALITIES

  • Supportive team leadership and engendering a positive, enthusiastic and constructive process

  • Ability to monitor and manage the delegation of tasks for a team of junior designers

  • Able to bring out the best in the team, and allow them to ease towards clear goals

  • Work closely with the principal and other senior designers to monitor contract performance, from initial statement-of-work through completion

  • Organized individuals that pay close attention to detail

  • Have a expert understanding and knowledge of design and construction techniques as it relates to architectural design

STRATEGIC

  • Collaborating with the principal and studio manager on the scheduling of projects, client meetings, and project milestones

  • Aid in maintaining project budgets and communications to the team and client

  • Assess and track junior designer growth and progress for yearly reporting to the principal

  • Assist team for on-site installations

GENERAL DESIGN PRACTICE

  • At least 5+ years of professional experience, primarily in high-end custom residential projects

  • Knowledge of New York building codes and regulations

  • Thoughtful design skills and strong portfolio, including examples of residential construction drawings

  • Excellent verbal, written and graphic communication skills

  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and self-management

  • Improving internal systems while coordinating with the principal

  • Work closely with the principal and studio manager in staffing projects, identifying new employee needs, and keeping projects within staffing budgets

Key Attributes: 

  • Driven, detail-oriented, professional, and organized

  • Demonstrated strategic approach to construction documentation and project management

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent teamwork skills

  • Experience with common industry software applications such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office and Asana

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, and Adobe Suite required

  • Self-motivated; Willing to support and assist; Solution-seeker; Self-starter 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the principal, designers, and clients

  • Strong writing skills (narratives, strategy, meeting minutes, proposals, etc.)

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from an accredited university - Master’s degree a plus.

  • Full-time, in-office position (5 days a week)

  • Medical benefit package, eligible after 30 days of employment

  • 10 days of paid vacation per year; 5 days accrued after 6 months of employment
