The Designer is responsible for the correct implementation of citizenM brand standards from acquisition through to completion of the construction documents. He/she will be responsible for designing & creating a genuine citizenM experience.

The Designer will work within the global citizenM Design Team, focusing on the roll out of new US hotels. The Designer will be essential in conducting feasibility studies for potential new hotel sites. This involves not only design work, but also research and understanding of local building, zoning, and planning codes.

During the first phase of a new project, the Designer will help develop the design in collaboration with the creative agency “concrete”, compile and administrate all project related documentation, and facilitate related sign-off procedures.

In the later stages of a project the Designer - in collaboration with the Senior Designer, design manager, and the local architect / professional team - will oversee development of the design through to Construction Documentation (RIBA stage 4). In all stages of the project the Designer will provide design direction for all guest facing, functional and operational areas of the building.

The Designer may also be involved in offline projects and the creation of new hotel experiences. In this capacity the Designer will collaborate with other departments within citizenM as well as external consultant teams as required.

 key responsibilities

  • creates concept designs and feasibility studies for the acquisition and development teams to evaluate potential of new projects
  • collaborates with our creative agencies/partners (interior design, CX, art & styling) and manages their input for each project.
  • pro-actively implements cM Brand Standards in all stages of a project. Collaborates closely with respective internal parties.
  • as part of the project design team he/she provides design direction to local architect and professional team.
  • coordinates input and direction of internal stakeholders such as OPS, IT, MEP etc
  • onboards professional teams in collaboration with Design manager
  • responsible for organizing timely signoffs during projects and involving all stakeholders
  • provides design quality control during construction. 

qualifications / skills

  • master’s degree in architecture, interior design, or equivalent
  • 2-5 years experience in architectural and interior design
  • international work experience
  • excellent organizational skills
  • effective communication skills
  • passionate and positive attitude.
  • Solution driven individual
  • identify with citizenM brand
  • 2D & 3D CAD proficiency
  • Experienced in Revit
  • fluent in English and preferably a second language

locations / hours

  • This is a Hybrid full-time position
  • This position will be based in citizenM support office in New York, NY
  • This role involves travel, mostly within the US, and occasionally international.
