Building & Design Resources, a Boston-based team of material resource specialists serving architects and interior designers, is looking for someone for a part-time position (8 to 16 hours per week or every other week) to work with a Brooklyn architectural firm.  Days/times are generally flexible; we are open to discuss options.  Ideal skills are listed below in no particular order.

• Interested in learning about building and interior design materials for commercial buildings--staying on top of developing trends and new materials and technologies; ideally with an initial good knowledge foundation about building and interior design materials

• Meet with material reps on a regular basis to ensure that materials in the library are current and new and appropriate materials are added, taking into consideration the firm’s design aesthetic, cost, performance characteristics, and sustainability; developing and maintaining good relationships with reps on behalf of the firm

• Have a good sense of organization and a basic understanding of the CSI MasterFormat to maintain materials in an organized, logical manner

• Consult with individual architects and designers to suggest materials for consideration and to order samples as needed

• Have a committed interest in sustainability, with an ability to vet materials for inclusion in the library based on the firm’s criteria for acceptable materials (this interest and ability is first and foremost important!)

• Organize monthly tradeshows to introduce new materials to both architects and interior designers (the day/time for this monthly event will require presence of the material librarian to coordinate, to learn, and to gauge the interest from staff)

Note: There is the possibility of adding other architectural firms in NYC in the future which would suggest more days/times—not guaranteed, but possible.

Please email your resume along with a statement about why this position interests you and a note about your flexibility to brenda@bdresources.com.
