Ennead Architects (, an award-winning, internationally recognized architecture firm, is looking for a Computational Designer. Our portfolio is diverse in typology, scale and location and includes new construction, renovation and expansion, historic preservation, interior design, and master planning. Clients are principally cultural, educational, scientific, and governmental institutions.

Our Applied Computing department develops the standards upon which all projects are based and seeks to innovate in project design and delivery. To this end we are looking for a highly skilled, motivated, and autodidactic individual to support and bolster our growing Computational Design needs.

As a Computational Designer, you are a designer first and foremost and you strive to innovate all aspects of your process, rejecting the mundane and obsolete static workflows of the past. You think in parameters and generative logic, and you constantly strive to automate your aesthetic visions wherever you can. When you talk about designs with your colleagues, you immediately begin to think about how you can script them. You are a digital explorer who thrives on examining new design possibilities enabled by algorithms and figuring out solutions to some of the most complex design problems the industry faces.

In this unique role, you will be a Computational Designer in our multi-faceted architecture studio with the opportunity to exist at the cutting edge of design while working on some of the most exciting projects in the world. As a designer adept in computational methodologies, you will act as a bridge between our bustling design studio and our dynamic design technology department, Applied Computing. This is an exciting opportunity to innovate at every level and work at the forefront of the AEC industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work on project teams as computational design lead.
  • Create various parametric models for design and development of projects including but not limited to massing, panelization, complex geometry, geometric rationalization, and sustainability
  • Utilize data (environmental, cost, programmatic, etc) to communicate and drive design decisions
  • on projects
  • Collaborate with Ennead’s Applied Computing Department on computational design tools and workflows to drive our office-wide digital technology strategy
  • Communicate Computational Design processes for project deliverables, presentations, and research in clear ways to less technical audiences
  • Contribute to Ennead’s design community with unique knowledge, project based tools, presentations, and providing mentorship to young designers.
  • Approximately 70% of your time will be spent on project teams as a designer and 30% of your time will be spent with the Applied Computing Department improving our computational design ecosystem


  • High proficiency in Rhino and Grasshopper is a must
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Dynamo
  • Text based programming skills a plus (C#, Python, Processing, etc.)
  • Ability to create sophisticated parametric models for both simple and complex design problems
  • Adept at driving design parameters based on environmental and other performance metrics
  • Excellent systems thinking skills with the ability to solve complex problems creatively, look at them holistically, and communicate them in simple terms
  • Strong conceptual design and graphic communication skills
  • Deep understanding of architectural design and delivery processes
  • Thirst for knowledge and learning new skills and technologies
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to work with a diverse range of architects and consultants
  • Must be willing to work Full-Time Hours
  • Architectural Experience 3 -5 years
  • Computational Designer Experience 1-3
  • Bachelor of Architecture required
