I think another good thing to look at is other architect's web pages.
I too would be interested to see links to fav architect sites.
Me personally, I am loving these two. http://sitenewyork.com/ http://www.archi-tectonics.com/
i have an old portfolio and im planning to re-do it....i fell it can be a lot better but if it helps send me an email and i will gladly share it with u
E ville,
I like what you have. Reading through your resume you mentioned 'modeling'. For my first arch. job I got hired by the hiring manager because she thought I was a model and I was modeling. She was some foreign girl and got confused. We still joke about it.
-Including a "LinkedIn" hyperlink
-Showing Construction Drawings (Should I show samples? What about copyright issues?, or should i trim to show parts of them?)
-Including recommendations written about me (from linkedin)
-Showing handsketches i've done before
-Showing construction photos i've done before with volunteering with habitat for humanity?
In my site I have everything you just mentioned except construction drawings and recommendations.
Handsketches are good and construction photos are good so long as they show the entire project (not some fooked up detail your boss yelled at you for).
I think construction drawings are a little too intense for a portfolio. I just linked it 3 posts ago.
intotheloop, thanks for the heads up on 'image is stuck to the bottom of the page' - not sure I'm seeing it on my browser. On which page do you see it?
PS. Too true - prairie house is not at all rad, just a slight retro prairie. Designed it to play with constraints of ADA ramp rules.
I think agent8 - eric-lane has it - he scores - I attended a portfolio
seminar at San Francisco AIA - 2 people from SOM where there and agent8 has all the things that SOM looks for in terms of 3D that explains complex ideas in a simple easy to read way as he did for Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate park - This portfolio rocks -

Become good?
i was gonna say 'quit now' because it was less inflammatory than 'hang yourself' but i've been practicing the zen of not-posting.
to Unicorn Slaughter & fku2:
when someone asks sincerely for information & help I don't think your sarcasm is appreciated or needed on this site
Anyone with personal portfolios?

it's not a personal portfolio but it might give you some ideas for format:

Dustin,
isn't that what this website is all about. Why don't you contribute to this site more!!!

I like your site Eric. Do you think recommendations are too tacky?
Personally, yes I do. Just link them to your Linked in page. They can find them there or say somewhere they are available upon request.
Here's another sample to check out. I try to keep things simple and stay away from Flash.

Emerging. That prairie house is so Revited out. Haha, I have like all the same stuff in my "revit" project... Furniture, window frames, CMU.
Also you've got a weird formatting scheme where the image is stuck to the bottom of the page. Might want to play with your table alignment a bit.
The physical models you've got are pretty rad.

i think the sarcasm is needed even more on this site but hey it is coming from me so what do I know
Ok mine was just finished by a friend. Please let me know what you think...
