Pretending like everything is controlled by cronyism is a vast oversimplification. It is always tough to start out a new firm from scratch, but acting like very single existing firm is some cog in this machine of corruption is asinine.
Synergy,
Have you, meaning you as a licensed and insured entity, ever tried to get a City contract?
If you have, you might know what people are talking about.
medit...that's the hope...the brazilian president is out on the media explaining that the billions of dollars involved are not going to be "spent", but instead "invested"...we'll see!
holz...pan-am games were in 07...it was rio's way of showing the COI it could get its act together when needed (hopefully, not too much though) - and yes, the reciprocal visa law is awesome!!! : )
preparations for the 2014 world cup have started slowly though...lots of bickering on which stadiums to use, what should be renovated, etc...should be a good party though!
the reciprocal visa law is a fantastic idea- a friend of mine went to brazil and told me all u.s. citizens are taken out of the line, asked to do a separate line, and fingerprinted with ink- she had to walk away with inky fingers! hilarious.
note: this is not u.s.-hate. you have to understand the immigration process to get into the u.s., as a foreigner, is pretty unique. have to love lula.
re.: spent vs invested- i agree, and this is a problem of all olympics in general- huge amounts of money are spent building white elephants. they should be designed in a way that makes them more adaptable to future use. hopefully the combo of world cup + olympics will make them more efficient.
olympic 2016

Brasil has a busy few years ahead of them:
World Cup 2014
Summer Olympics 2016
Congratulations to Rio!

i think they have the pan-am games as well coming up.
and yes, brazil also has reciprocal visa laws, so all americans will have to pay for a $130 temp visa and then get fingerprinted/photographed.
how awesome is that?

i think the rest of the world prefer Rio definitely!
If there will be a European Influence in the venue it will most likely come from Portugal or Italy.
