WTF? I just saw you post and noticed we were applying to the same exact schools and have the same exact results so far. That's fucked up. Oh well whho cares I'm gonna smoke a joint now.
just wondering if you were on the west coast of canada? It seems like most applicants who've received acceptances over the last few days are from the west coast, just wanted to know if you could help confirm my hunch ;) Hopefully, the rest of us UBC applicants will receive some good news early next week.
I'm smack dab in the middle of North America. At least that's our claim to fame. I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I think expedited parcels have a 2-7 day window nationally for canada post. regional is 1-3 days, local 1 day.
Thanks for the info passerby! I'm in Toronto and patiently waiting for some news from UBC. Hopefully not getting anything this week doesn't discount me from the running.
Pythagoras: Thanks for the kind words. I'm not worried in the greater sense. I did get into Michigan and I'm getting quite excited about their program.
Just hoping I also hear from Pratt. And SCI-Arc. And UCLA.
Atty? Your status seems to be most aligned with me. You got into Michigan, yes? And I think you're waiting on Pratt, too.
We should compare notes seeing as how we might be potential classmates.
Thanks lewis....congrats to you too..and Michigan is awesome too. You leaning any way?
I would just be straight up arch but I think the lighting design program looks awesome so would love to try my hand. Also the design build program is what drew me to the program. I have zero arch or design experience...how about you?
Yeah I wont be attending marylands open house either, cause I will actually also be at michigans which is the same weekend.
Im actually a maryland native though and a few of my friends went to the program and I have been over there quite a few times so I can give you a rundown of the program and everything. Ill post that shortly
looks like everyone got their response, one way or another, from GSAPP. 'cept me...? anyone else find their mailbox empty? also anyone know when cooper sends out responses?
I am also waiting on Pratt. Have they sent out any acceptances as late? On petersons.com, they have a 51% acceptance rate so I thought that i had a decent chance of getting in. We'll see, best of luck to you all.
I think some might come next week. Maybe I'm at the 2 day end, so there's technically 5 more days left if that's the case. optimistically speaking. making it's way east to Toronto maybe? I'll send positive energy to you (st1tch) and discordant's way, maybe I'll see you there. Good luck!!
mbuyer: nah, Pratt hasn't notified yet. But according to Gradcafe - they notified around the 12th/13th last year... so hopefully we'll hear around the beginning of next week?
atty: don't know which way I'm leaning yet. I don't hear many people discussing Pratt (which I find odd). It's hard to get a feel for them or how the general arch-community views them. But I hear they recently nabbed a shit-load of ex-pats from GSAPP to teach there - I found that interesting.
AeSK... I guess your not the only one. I've been waiting to hear from GSAPP too. Let's hope for something better. I guess there are like 3-4 of us here.. still waiting.
It's funny as I'm just waiting for the GSAPP. Not even thinking about the other schools.
I think Pratt has good standing, especially in the city. Did you go to an open house? I did...it had a nice feel....havent been to Parsons yet. Are you going to even bother going to the Parsons open house?
For you kids talking about pratt. I think if you plan is to stay in the NYC area it is a great school (if you dont get into AAD, yale, gsd, ect) I did my undergrad there not too many years ago and the grad students were not very respected, but the grad program has gotten MUCH MUCH better in the last few years with Bill as the chair. He brought many good teachers from all the big name schools and stole some from the undergrad. The name of the school is very well received in the city. two weeks out of undergrad i took a job with a "starchitect" office. All my colleagues are out of grad programs at gsd, ysoa, columbia. i am the only one without a grad degree and now i am getting all my rejection letters in. go figure.
I am interested in teaching some day. It looks like most on this board are applying to Columbia, Harvard, MIT, etc., which would put them in a good position to do this. Did anyone here keep this in mind when applying for schools?
Schools want to hire experienced teachers, sure, but at Berkeley for instance, it is like Harvard and Berkeley grads with some MIT and others mixed in.
Any thoughts, or is this the absolute wrong place to post this question?
Heard from WUSTL on Monday via postal
and Oregon, Eugene Thursday via e-mail for anyone interested or waiting to hear from these programs....
I am still waiting to hear from Syracuse as well. I also got into Michigan (2g option) and am also interested in how they compare to one another.
I think michigan has a much better reputation for the MArch where as a lot of syracuse rep. comes from the BArch. Could be wrong Im interested to hear what others say.
Also. when did your hear from Cincinnati? I applied there as well but didn't think they've sent any notifications out yet?
I received an e-mail from the graduate department saying they are reviewing applications for fall semester and most decisions will be mailed by April 1st applications were completed by the January 5th deadline.
Merit-based applications will be reviewed at the same time and need-based aid will be processed by FAFSA only.
I hope this information helps all us Pratt applicants.
I received an email yesterday. Good luck! Where else have you applied to?
I have heard the same as you in regards to Syracuse. However I have heard that from people who did not attend. I have spoken to a few graduates of the Syracuse MArch and they loved it!
aquacate,
thank you for your kind encouragement and good feedback on my port. yes, i do need to resolve my buildings better and I could learned that from other portfolios i've seen in here, thanks. :)
2009 was very depressing year. I have sent out letters for internship and didn't get anything. Fortunately, I worked part time here and there. It's probably obvious but you need to network crazy to find stuff. I got works through my old boss, friends, and sometimes just out of luck. I posted my resume on AIA SF web, and someone just contacted me for temp work. I kept in touch with them to get some more works. SF Bay Area's really small world and i learned that many of architects i met are acquainted and connected to one another.
I'm still in Bay Area looking for work. For this entry level position you're taking about, is it posted on somewhere? My former boss told me once that he received about 100+ resumes a day when he posted a position. It seems like getting a job's as tough as getting into grad schools nowadays.
sorry, i'm being too verbose here. how's your application going?
have you posted your stats here?
I wish you the best.
passerby1ce: thanks for the positive energy, after hearing about your notification it makes me even more anxious. I'll probably see you out there either way (MLA, or M.arch if I get in), but the M.arch is my first choice for sure. I've been checking out places to live already...such and expensive city!
Thanks, and congrats and good luck to you as well. I graduated with a b.s. in architecture so im applying to 2 year programs or for AP
so far...
Michigan - in $$
Maryland - in
UT-Austion - assuming no
Cincinnati - ?

Yeah from what I know about syracuse it seems like a really good program. I know some people who got their BArch there. I feel that the program is very similar to michigans with regards to teaching and use of technology.
Thank you for your well wishes! I too am applying to the 2G / AP programs. I received a Bachelor of Design in Arch.
If I get a no from GSD and a Yes from Syracuse then I am torn between Michigan/Wash U/ and Syracuse. I do not think I will attend Cinci. I am not as impressed with the program as I initially was.
Hello everyone, I'm new on Archinect but been reading voraciously for the last few hours and thought it was about time I jumped in. Info:
Yale: in
GSAPP: in
Princeton: FAIL
GSD (along with 3/4 of archinect): waiting
UPenn: waiting
I'm applying from the United Kingdom (anyone else out there?), and felt a bit isolated until I found this forum-good to know there are others out there hitting refresh on their e-mails every five minutes.
From what I've been reading, the next two weeks seem to be decision time for the GSD, though if the decision is posted by snail mail, might take a bit of time for us internationals to find out. Also, don't know if this helps but got an e-mail from Penn saying that decisions would be made available online 22nd March at 12 noon.
My order of preference is:
1. GSD (if i get in)
2. YSOA
3. GSAPP
I think this is pretty standard but let me know if you would order them differently.
to anyone applying to cincinnati... have you guys heard anything yet? one posting on gradcafe and nothing else?
did you guys get any sort of conformation/web log in? all i have received was a conformation email back in jan that my online application was complete. haven't heard anything about supplemental materials, etc...
Having not applied to MIT, Yale, or GSAPP (which I should have =/ ) this week was pretty uneventful for me, but serious grats to those of you who have been accepted!
For those of you who have a bit more experience with academia in architecture, I have a question you may or may not be able to answer. My primary goal in getting my first-professional M.Arch is of course to get a professional degree and the ability to eventually go for licensure, but my secondary goal is to at some point teach within architecture. Within the list of school's I have applied to (and hopefully get into), would any of you happen to know which schools would make this secondary goal fairly out of reach or which would best support it?
UT Austin, Berkeley, UCLA, UOregon, UWashington, Sci-Arc, UPenn, and CCA.
I know these days a Ph.D is almost required for a good position in architecture academia, and I have found a few programs which I would love to be a part of after my masters, but being 27, being in school until 35 sounds "fun", but a bit unrealistic. Any insight on this would be awesome.
Hopefully this next week is eventful with a cornucopia of admittances for all. =)
I'm also waiting to hear news from the SOA at Syracuse.
I've heard similar things about Michigan and Syracuse with respect to their programs but here's my 2 cents.
A friend who is currently in her final semester of 2G at Michigan told me that her early studios were extremely form-based but there is also a contingent of theoretical studios later on should you choose to pursue them. Personally, I believe anyone looking to really get their hands dirty on rethinking a city should consider the UMich program given its proximity to Detroit.
As for Syracuse, I do agree that the B.Arch program gets much more publicity (it's ranked in the top 5 every year). However, everything I've read and looked at in their amazing M.Arch publications is really intriguing. The program seems to have the interdisciplinary nature that so many other schools (besides the ivies) preach about yet never fully achieve. The fact that it is in central New York does present a substantial benefit (4-6 hours away from Toronto, Montreal, NYC, Boston) as well as other facilities in Florence, London, and NYC.
I'm in at Parsons with $16k/year so if I get in at Syracuse it'll most likely be down to the two of them (although I'm prematurely leaning towards Syracuse).
also applied to Cornell and Berkeley-- given the stellar competition this year, I'm not holding my breath.
rqtect- I second your thoughts on Michigan. some people may bash Detroit but I think it's a real opportunity for some architectural-revitalization/tabula rasa-ness. a major draw for me to go there.

I emailed Syracuse last week asking when we would receive decisions and Speranza informed me that decisions would be mailed by March 15. So depending on where we live I'd bet on mid-week to learn our fates. I'm holding out hope that the publications packet was a preview to a yes for each of us.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
hmm.. your story sounds eerily familiar..
sorry I meant it was an expedited parcel. and I am in Canada.
WTF? I just saw you post and noticed we were applying to the same exact schools and have the same exact results so far. That's fucked up. Oh well whho cares I'm gonna smoke a joint now.

Ah... right. Nevertheless, I think you and I are the only ones on this board holding our breath on them.
Congrats on Parsons BTW. Would you be doing the dual arch/lighting track? Or just the arch?
*(them) on Pratt
