OHHH and to answer your question, it leads me to believe they do give more money the subsequent years by the wording on the acceptance letter. Are you going to open house on the 7th?
"for anyone who is wondering..
UO - 156 applicants, 47%
UT - 442 applicants, 39% accepted
UW - 479 applicants, 11% accepted
UBC - 444 applicants, 34% accepted, 68 enrolled"
If 68 are enrolled and 444 applicants apply, wouldn't it be 15% accepted (68/444)? How does one get those percentages? does it include wait listed people who got in or something? me confused.
WOW, you go away from 1 weekend and you miss 5 pages on here!
Villain, pult, waqas, etc.-
CONGRATS to all the GSAPP admits :) Genuinely happy for all of you. I've gradually come to accept my fate.
About PORTs-
I think someone said it earlier, they want to see your personality through your port, and it should be seen as more of a graphic design project than an arch one.
Well, that explains my GSAPP rejection, I had no graphic design experience and had to have someone help me make the port. There was no joie di vivre, it was very very simple, and I was hoping that people could see past the lackluster formatting into the heart of the work. But I guess they couldn't.
I'll know better for next time, IF there's a next time.
I think my long-term goal is to teach. That means that I need an M.Arch.
Received my thanks but no thanks letter from WUSTL yesterday which was a major bummer on my Saturday.
Dear XXX XXX,
On behalf of the Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design at Washington University, I want to thank you for your interest in our programs of study.
The Graduate Admissions Committee met recently to review your Fall 2010 application for admission. The committee gave particular care and complete study to every aspect of your application, but I am writing to inform you, with genuine regret that we are not able to offer you a position in the graduate program.
Our admissions decisions reflect the competitiveness of the process, especially this year as we received a very large number of applications. We appreciate your interest in Washington University, and we value the time and effort you put into submitting your application materials. Best wishes in all your future plans.
Sincerely,
Peter MacKeith
Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Admissions
Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts
At least he took the time to sign my letter...
BOS02135 and mugged,
I have not received anything from Cincinnati since the e-mail you both mentioned in January. Hopefully we get some good news soon!
ASU- nope
SAIC - yes waiting on $$$ info
U of Cincinattti - ???
U of Minnesota - ???
WUSTL - nope
Well this forum is perfect. Now we all know how to spice up our portfolios and give them that extra joie de vivre. Jizzy, please put up your photo with your new haircut! :)
yeah I'm definitely gonna go, right now I'm just gonna wait to see what cornell and pratt does if they accept me and offer more scholarship and then try to leverage for more scholarship money at GSAPP. Other than that I'm applying for external scholarships from my hometown region in Texas and we'll see. I wonder how many people GSAPP accepted this year?
Ok, now that RISD is apparently calling people, I am clinging desperately to my blackberry. Will everyone who is accepted get a phone call, although the site claims that the only binding decision is via post?
I applied to both the GSAPP and AA, but for MArchI, so my opinion isn't incredibly well informed. Personally i reckon GSAPP over AA. Not sure if you have visited the AA, but it's a really small school, and I think there would be fewer opportunities compared to the GSAPP. HAving said that, the DRL is the AA's flagship program, and if you want to work for Zaha, it's definitely the place to go...
There's a good school blog that details the AA DRL: link
There are a few things about the program to keep in mind- most studio work is done in groups of 3 to 4, so it can be important to find compatible people quickly, as they have a big impact on your experience there. Also, the general thrust of the studio is more or less set in advance. I'm sure individual unit leaders have their own areas of interest, but I think there's less variety than you're likely to find within the 12 or so advanced studios at the GSAPP. This might not be a problem if you're interested in the what's going on there ( which at the moment is mainly focused on emergent systems, computational analysis and design, etc) but if that's not your bag then Columbia or the GSD may be a better choice.
Any one have open house info/dates for Clemson, Syracuse, or Ohio State (I think someone mentioned the OSU open house a few pages back, but I didn't catch a date)?
Trying to decide behind schools based on various hypothetical admit/funding scenarios is getting seriously old. I figure I at least might as well make hypothetical travel plans while I'm waiting for letters to arrive.
Clemson - in via website
Syracuse - ?
Ohio State - ?
jgilmo, the open house for ohio state is on monday, april 5th. my admission results were posted on ohio state's website last week. have you updated your application status anytime recently?
I got a letter from Clemson last Monday. There open house is Friday April 2nd. My Ohio State online status just says referred. Don't know what exactly that means.
Ooo ... I just remembered I did not complete the "GPA Calculation Sheet" for the GSD. But I think that was optional, right? After all, what's the point if they have your transcript(s)? Furthermore, I did not see the GPA Calculation Sheet anywhere on the online app form except linked to as an external document which must then be uploaded into the "Additional Documents" section ... seems kind of pointless when you've already uploaded your transcript(s) anyway.
Thanks for posting various letters of acceptance / rejection from different schools. Very interesting to see how each univ. is formulating its answer.
Princeton's acceptance sounds like this (apologies if it's been posted and I missed that part, thus rendering my post redundant):
"
Dear Mr. Last Name:
Congratulations! The Department of Architecture strongly recommended that you be admitted to the Graduate School and I agree with them wholeheartedly. I very much hope you will accept our invitation to begin your studies at Princeton in September 2010.
Our deadline for receiving your signed Admission Reply Form is April 15, 2010, by 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, although we are eager to hear from you sooner. However, should you decide not to accept Princeton’s offer, we would especially appreciate hearing from you early, as we then may be able to admit other candidates from our wait list.
Your official admission materials should be arriving within the next few weeks and will answer many of the questions you undoubtedly have. If any questions remain, please contact the Graduate Admission Office staff at (609) 258-3034 or gsadmit@princeton.edu
Welcome to Princeton University!
Sincerely,
William B. Russel
Dean of the Graduate School"
point at which Stan Allen called my cell to have a chat and express his welcome wishes, then he followed up by e-mail later in the day:
"Razvan,
It was good to talk with you this morning, and to be able to congratulate you personally. The faculty were very impressed by your application and we are confident you would be a good fit at Princeton. As I said when we spoke, you will be receiving letters from the School of Architecture and the Graduate School sometime next week with the details of our offer. If you can make it, we will be hosting an open house for admitted students Monday April 12. This will be a chance to see the School, talk to current students and meet with faculty. After you have had a chance to review the material in the admissions package, feel free to contact me, or Jesse Reiser, the Director of Graduate Studies for the Master of Architecture program, with any questions. Once again, congratulations, and we look forward to welcoming you to Princeton in the fall.
Sincerely,
Stan Allen"
definitely lot more personal and inviting than what Yale, and the WAY TOO FORMAL GSAPP pulled out of the hat
I think UPenn notify via website on the 22 March. They sent me an e-mail telling me to check my online app page at 12 noon EST...
Razvan,
I can't believe they sent you two e-mails and called you. Seems like they really want each and every applicant they pick. Congratulations for getting accepted!

Razvan,
I can't believe they sent you two e-mails and called you. Seems like they really want each and every applicant they pick. Congratulations for being accepted!
I can bring you the wonderfull news that you are being made an offer to study at the Architectural Association on our MArch in Architecture and Urbanism (Design Research Laboratory).
I have prepared your offer letter which will follow on to you all individually, scanned and attached to an email as soon as next years' term dates are finalised and announced by our Director, Brett Steele. There is a slight delay on this decision this year as we are making some small changes to our academic calendar.
Since we note that you have ticked AA Bursary on your application then this email is to initially break the news and inform you that Sabrina Blakstad who is responsible for Bursary Applications will email you a Bursary Application over the next few days.
The new fees for DRL are £25,305 for the full 16 months.
We have been inundated with applications to study DRL and we already have created a large waiting list for the course so I sincerely hope that you are happy with your offer!
Good luck with the Bursary Application. I hope I will have the letter scanned to you by Friday.
Warm regards,
Claire Louise Perry

On a side note: anybody know when the GSD open house will be?
@Hellas, seems like you got too excited over Razvan's acceptance into Princeton. As much as or more so than the school is to have Razvan as their student !
Speaking of excitement, I cant wait to see Razvan's portfolio!
I need some inspiration. Razvan - pls do us that favor and get your stuff up here. Thanks ! : )
omg! congrats yunez, you are in an enviable position. You are so spoilt for choice, and I cant believe anyone will not want to be in a similar situation as you. It's a problem most, if not, all of us here on archinet would love to have !!
Dispense some tips here on how to succeed in applying to a grad school. Leave a legacy behind...like all stararchitects do.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!

First time on here...Has anyone heard from Pratt? I've only heard from one school so far.
Here he is, in a Banana Republic ad:

Here he is, in a Banana Republic ad:
I looked up the percentages of those same schools in my book of arch schools:
"
UO - 156 applicants, 47%
UT - 442 applicants, 39% accepted
UW - 479 applicants, 11% accepted
UBC - 444 applicants, 34% accepted, 68 enrolled

Versus
UO - 57%-60% accepted
UT - 30% - 35% accepted
UW - 25%-33% accepted
UBC - 30% accepted
my information is from 2003 fyi.
Congrats to everyone who got into gsapp and cornell!
I was looking through gradcafe and saw some cornell ones
but is it only m.arch II they notified?
the amount of responses aggregating in this thread is tremendous.
I had hard time following up after missing it for 2 days.
waqas - I am a Korean student but my undergrad from Illinois
It appears that GSD mail will be out by next week.
So nervous..... ahhhh
Check this out for tuition and acceptance.
http://www.architectmagazine.com/education/arch-ed-2009.aspx
I would be willing to bet the 'applicant' numbers from that list have at least doubled this year. But good info none the less.
Just got a phone call from a professor at RISD... in with a fellowship!
working hoot. that is where i want to go!
can i see your portfolio?
sbeth85,
I just searched for scholarships for RGV students and i fit the criteria. My permanent address is still in Texas.
anyone else get a call from Dean Whiting from Rice, ON A SUNDAY? too bad it was a nice day outside and happened to be away from my phone.
Ok, now that RISD is apparently calling people, I am clinging desperately to my blackberry. Will everyone who is accepted get a phone call, although the site claims that the only binding decision is via post?
tecture: sorry but I don't have it online anywhere
This is addicting! I've been reading for days and decided its time to post. I'm applying for MArch2 which seems to be much less popular on this blog.
Schools:
GSD (MArch2) = ?
GSAPP (MSAAD) = In
AA (Design Research Lab) = In
MIT = ?
UPenn = ?
UT Austin = ?
Here's a link to my portfolio
What are your opinions on GSAPP vs. AA_DRL if I don't get into GSD? I'm waiting to hear about $$ from both schools.
hey, I received a call from the dean at rice around noon too...but I missed it. She left a voicemail mentioning "good news" though...
In at UCLA as of late Saturday night. In GSAPP MS RED, but out for M. Arch I. I was hoping to do both programs, now I'm unsure of what to do.

Final tally: accepted to MIT, Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, UCLA, RISD!
Enjoy your sleepless night folks, tomorrow is a big day!
yunez,
didnt u apply for MArch for all those schools!?!? GSD already started?!
Yunez, congratulations, excellent!!
According to all calculations, past trends, rumors, and logical reasoning, the GSD has mailed out acceptances on Friday.
Of course, as a lot of you may have heard, USPS is now closed on Saturdays. Which means Monday...
Yunez, was it FedEx?
Yes it was MArch and yes it was Fedex
Thanks. Congratulations again. Choose Princeton! :)
