Just curious if anyone on Archinect has worked or studied under someone notable or semi-famous, whether past or present!
Side tangent: when applying to these sorts of offices is your alma mater that important or will they look at the strength of your portfolio and experience alone?
I worked for Raphael Vinoly a couple years ago. I would not recommend ever working there but it was interesting while it lasted. He knows Rhino better than any young architect I knew at the time and would often come over to an employee's desk and redesign the building digitally in front of the whole design team...it was quite a site.
I don't know if he qualifies as a starchitect or not, but years ago I was a student intern at Perkins + Will and I worked on a couple of projects with Ralph Johnson. Nice guy, quiet personality, and completely unpretentious. If you were to see him on the street, he's about the last person on earth you'd expect to be a highly-regarded architect.
FOA? Renzo Piano? Fosters? Rogers? Snohetta? Morphosis? I'm not an architect, but the firm I work with work on some great projects, giving me access to great architects.
What Starchitect have you worked for?

it doesnt matter, you can do well from anywhere, but of course having a good school name on your cv aint gonna harm your chances.
I worked for K. Rove and Associates from 2001-2009.
"I worked for K. Rove and Associates from 2001-2009."
Who's that?
it's political.

I work for myself. And I'm a star, baby! ;-)
100% agreed lb!
Raphael Vinoly seems like a cool firm.
Ha ha, I just looked at Ralph Johnson's profile on the P&W website... yea he looks more like my grandpa than an architect, lol.
lb, did you get a B.Starch or M.Starch, just out of curiosity?
I put together a proposal with Will Bruder, but we didn't get the job. Wahhhh!
FOA? Renzo Piano? Fosters? Rogers? Snohetta? Morphosis? I'm not an architect, but the firm I work with work on some great projects, giving me access to great architects.
I got the B.Starch, FLM, though I refer to the degree as BS.
I only work against these PR moguls of Architecture. I'm in direct competition against Ken Shuttleworth (Make) for design at the moment.
that must've been a short gig J - cause it didn't take him that long...
which starchitects car would you like to wash? i would choose liberty bell's as it is small.
Art Vandelay, FAIA is the name I use for sharing music on iTunes
i once met tom watson
i would like to work for dick busch architects someday.
i spent a year at Alan Smithee's office.
I worked for John Doe 1 for 6 months...I liked it a lot !!
the appropriate question, Vado, is which starchitect you would like to wash. i will plead the 5th in this case.
but it is still the more interesting question !
