Does anyone know how you can get an electronic copy of whatever you might be seeing in google maps when you have the satellite view? Like a 'Save as image' command? Im looking through and cant find anything. I can only print the whole webpage.
hit 'shift' and 'prt scrn' (print screen) then 'ctrl-v' paste into photoshop or similar program
on a mac use the grab function: Cmd+Shf+4 draw the marquee. automatically dumps a .png onto your desktop.
Thanks guys
any way to get a .png using a PC though? Or save as jpeg?
get google earth and you can save the images as a jpg (i'm pretty sure google maps and earth share the same images)
On the PC, your Microsoft supplied Paint programme will accept the copied image and you can select .jpg in the file type. Alt + Print Screen grabs only the live window, Shift + Print Screen grabs your whole screen.
I tend to do this in google earth since it seems like it has better resolution and more control over panning and zooming. Then I dump them all into photoshop CS3 and hit "photomerge."
bought a little software called 'snagit' which i use for all grapping now - much better than print screen - you might look at UCL - CASA image cutter http://www.casa.ucl.ac.uk/software/googlemapimagecutter.asp for and look at their digital urban blog http://digitalurban.blogspot.com/search/label/Google%20Earth
I love Snag-It too, been using it for years. Can record video with it, too.
