Not only that, but it seems kind of odd that they'd be making calls at 5:45 on a Friday. Not sure I'm ready to buy that.

For the sake of clarity...I was not the one called, only hypothesizing about the conversation. The call could have happened at any time today.

I'm spending a potentially unhealthy amount of time in this thread.

andimdone:

was that email from jane regardin your file rank a reply to something you sent, or was it a general email sent out?

unless they're prerecorded rejection calls...but highly doubtful of the supposed "call"....we will see soon

imsleepy - that really sucks. exactly why i was so scared of calling schools and ask. just simply can't handle the rejection over the phone.

re:GSD phone rejection

at least that person's note could have hinted at a sense of humor

imsleepy:

i think the case would be more like...
student - "hello, im calling to find out on my application status"
gsd - "whats ur name"
student - "xxx"
gsd - "rejected"
click

My favorite part of that scenario (more plausible than mine) is that someone from The GSD would say "ur" in a conversation with a prospective student.

please, please, PLEASE don't let the reply from ubc be a one worder - "rejected". eeee, i'm feeling very nervous now.

dang... phone rejection sounds as awful as breaking up with gf/bf on the phone... perhaps not, between lovers, at least you can piss each off.
so GSD calls to reject and sends e-mails to accept?

I emailed Jane @ Austin and asked her when i would be getting my rejection letter.

Mar 13, 09 6:02 pm  ·

N312

well, i don't think they'd do that to you lesov.

i don't get the concept of rejection over phone call or email. i mean, at least tell the person to wait for the official letter or something. be nice to the applicants!!! we gave them money, if nothing else.

I got into Pratt last year and it told me in my acceptance email about a scholarship. Its good to see all the people into Pratt this year, last year there was no one.

Whats the deal with UCLA emails?

first time posting, now that i'm finally putting the picture together... non-arch background, 3 yr M.Arch I applicant...

just got the pratt email today, and several hours after the first batch went out, so apparently they're in waves...

Pratt - accepted
UIC - accepted
Maryland - accepted
Catholic - accepted
GSD - ?
UW - ?
Berkeley - ?
UCLA - ?

no good news in way of fin aid/scholarships yet though, so even the acceptances look pretty daunting next to their price tags...

I'm waiting on SCI-Arc and Cal poly Pomona. why do my two schools have to be a month behind everyone else?

Anyway, SCI-Arc said letters will go out on March 30. Pomona doesn't seem to be answering the phone at the moment.

Did anybody get news of getting scholarship money from UT Austin in their email. Or are we supposed to wait for our financial Aid to process?

Mar 13, 09 8:25 pm  ·

@lessermatters,

I'm with you on SCI-Arc. I'd put them, UCLA, and UT at the top of my list.

I had a buddy that applied last year and he told me he had already committed to UCLA by the time he received his acceptance to SCI-Arc.

So that's a bummer. I probably will end up calling them towards end of March. Especially after UT shows me what they have to offer at open house.

I think UT only offers scholarships for continuing and transfer students.

So 2nd year is when we can get those is my understanding.

But I received an e-mail from them today saying that they are reviewing my FAFSA and will let me know how much money I've been awarded soon.

Hi all, congrats to all the UCLA and Pratt people, and the rest of you who got into countless other schools in the past few days!!!! his has been an exciting week!

I'm throwing my stats out there for posterity:

Today I heard from Pratt (with scholarship, but only half as much as RISD, less than GSAPP too) and UCLA (with full ride fellowship-I am in state so full ride is less, again, than RISD is giving me)

My tally so far:

RISD - Mar 7, phone call, scholarship + work study, renewable scholarship
Yale - Mar 12, email, no word on funding/scholarship
GSAPP - Mar 12, website update, scholarship-renewable, potentially w/ more money in future years
Pratt - Mar 13, email, scholarship-first year only
UCLA - Mar 13, email, fellowship-first year only??

GSD - no word, longshot still
UCB - no word-doubtful prospects
Sci-Arc - no word, who knows.

Hey Nick-

So far RISD and Columbia re the forerunners, Yale is next. I love Yale's program but am pessimistic about New Haven (I am bringing a husband along with me). UCLA made it sweet, but the excitement level isnt there; Pratt seems a silly option as they gave me less $ than RISD adn Columbia, who also have more exciting programs--its certainly not all about the money.

giantclam: gsapp seems like a sweet opportunity, particularly with that much added to the package, don't know the strengths of risd necessarily, but what are the differences between the two programs?
