Obama is keeping his decision quiet, but his staff in Chicago and party activists who await a decision are buzzing about Biden in large part because he can address two of Obama's biggest weaknesses — his lack of experience, especially on world affairs, and his reluctance to go on the attack. The speculation among Democrats is less of an indicator of whether Biden will ultimately be Obama's pick, and more of a recognition of the challenges their candidate faces at this pivotal moment in the race.
Not at all related to veepstakes, but I must confess my very deep suspicion that obama is probably going to lose. I think we should all be prepared for it.

If one candidate confines himself to the truth, while the other is willing to appeal to base instincts, which one will likely prevail, all other things being equal ?
How did RR beat JC ? It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

<b>2008:<b> Pick your favorite local Republican Operative, your favorite Swing State, and your choice of underhanded, semi-legal tactics, and bingo: this is how we may lose the election this time around.
It's like the world's shittiest game of Clue, except the winner gets to be the worst president in American history. twice.
Americans are all elitists unless they are of color and or poor. get over it fight to keep it that way or change and live smaller. simple to understand.
I read two things yesterday: one, Obama has dropped below McCain by 5 points (forget which poll) and this little article about one Jerry Corsi, who has just published a smear job on Obama called "Obama Nation" (think about it). Here's a little except from the article:
"The previous night, Corsi had appeared on Fox News. (Sean Hannity: “Do we know if he ever sold drugs?” Corsi: “I raise that question.”)"
It so happens that this "writer" published another little tome called "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry". All this starting to sound familiar? Meanwhile, McCain is basically just making fun of Obama in most of his ads. The shit-flinging campaign is working up to full speed.
I had predicted earlier in this thread that the tactics of the Republicans and their "behind the scenes" talking heads were going to make Clinton's tactics look like Mickey Mouse stuff. Yet there are pages and pages, in this thread and others, of rants and rails at every word and move by Clinton, but now all I read is stunned silence. Where's the outrage and indignation now? It was my belief that the nation would actually finally be sickened by the "Swift Boat" tactics, not fall into that trap again, and tell the Republicans to shove it, but I'm thinking now that I might have given the electorate too much credit.
Well I think the Obama campaign saw corsi coming and dropkicked him as effectively as Id imagined possible. What did hurt him was that asinine string of false ads McCain unloaded on him the week after the mideast/europe trip. The hitback from obama was just too slow and way too soft, and it made him look weak and aloof. It didnt help that he spent a week in hawaii while Russia was invading Georgia, without even his surrogates out there showing he was concerned about the situation.
As far as the Clinton thing goes, part of it is I think we expect this kind of thing from republicans, but in a primary where the two candidates share 98% of the same platform it feels like self-sabotage. I also think the racial stuff from some people in the clinton campaign was particularly pernicious.
As bad as things have been, as totally loathsome as that 'appeaser' stunt was, I have no illusions that weve seen the worst yet. I have no doubt that if it looks like Obama will win in november Bush will have Isreal hit Iran a week before the election. I mean the Bush administration spent the entire month of July rattling Irans cage, coordinating training exercises with Israel simulating military strikes on Irans nuclear facilities, repeatedly sending packages of information to Iran detailing immanent Isreali strikes to ramp up tensions and provoke defense demonstrations. It seems more than likely now that the McCain campaign and Randy Scheunemann deliberately encouraged the Georgia crisis. I mean theyre starting wars and killing people to scare up votes and they arent even in office yet. And now instead of peacekeepers theyre hammering away at trying to put missiles in poland so McCain can channel fucking Ronald Reagan and tell putin to tear down this wall or some other such bullshit. And theres no strategic benefit anywhere here. Theyve only encouraged Iran to escalate enrichment, to sabotage real negotiations, to inflate the regime in the eyes of its people. Russia looks stronger than ever, and may be on its way to completely controlling oil transportation out of the caucuses. The only purpose of this stuff is to intentionally antagonize these nations and frighten americans to manipulate domestic politics.
Mark my words, if Obama loses this election it will be the story of how america failed to join the 21st century and cemented its decline as a relevant world power. Enjoy for the breadlines.

don't know what you're referring to excatly, but you think it's that simple to negate the effects of garbage like that, uh? Didn't seem to have worked for John Kerry, and the pile is small yet.
this isn't directed at you emilio, or anyone in particular really...but i'm already annoyed at the hillary supporters who are smirking on the sidelines and hoping mccain wins just so they can tell the obama supporters "i told you so."
What really gets me PO'd is that, with all the warlike developments, Russia especially, the total fantasy (see the present gang's performance the past 8 years) that the Republicans are better in wartime gets trotted out. And that McCain is so much better at foreign diplomacy when he continually demonstrates that he doesn't even have a firm knowledge of the players in the Iraq mess.
Please, just shoot me now....
e, I don't think that's fair--I mean the fact that he can't remember how many houses he owns doesn't necessarily mean that McCain is an elitist; it could just mean that he's really fucking old and can't remember that, or that Prussia is neither an enemy of the United States nor a country anymore, or that he's not supposed to press that red button on his desk. It could just be that he's really, really unfit to be president.

Nothing would surprise me, any more.

well, those you mention are idiots.
agreed, but you have to admit that they are many...
maybe not though. maybe i'm pessimistic today and just feeling the effects of the lingering uncertainty with which we find ourselves faced.

e, I don't think that's fair--I mean the fact that he can't remember how many houses he owns doesn't necessarily mean that McCain is an elitist; it could just mean that he's really fucking old and can't remember that, or that Prussia is neither an enemy of the United States nor a country anymore, or that he's not supposed to press that red button on his desk. It could just be that he's really, really unfit to be president.

and Emilio, it may not be that McCain is necessarily better, but he's so tough, and so wise-seeming, and so not black.
obama mentions that every chance he gets. it's very insulting to the voter.
I wouldnt say "every chance he gets," more like 3 times since june, but I'll be real it makes me cringe a bit too.
i got my obama yard sign over lunch today. I wanted a classic one before the veep nomineee gets anounced.

"... and so not black.

ah, but less insulting to him not to vote for him jsut 'cause he's black....
"just 'cause he's black...."
tis a dream come true
I hear you FLM. I think it's a little of both. I have to be pretty ancient to get to the point that I can't remember how many homes I own. One.
:D
it's Biden.

I'd be glad.
