"Crazy", of course, by Patsy Cline.

I don't know the Willie Nelson original version, but Cake covers his "Sad Songs and Waltzes" and when I sing it to my son he always goes to sleep.

Actually most of Willie's "Stardust" is slow and sweet.

this genre is a mind of state not the way around. its a novelty at first when you hear it but gets old quickly.

i don't know if it really classifies as country, but Nashville Skyline is a great bob dylan album you'd probably like. lay lady lay is a great song, and so is girl from the north country, when jonny cash makes a cameo

Lay lady lay is pretty terrible IMO, nashville skyline rag is the only song on that album that you can listen more than 3 times...
NS is Bob at its worse, though. Blame his marriage.

Go bluegrass. Start with Gram Parsons (Love Hurts-Later coved by Kansas; where Emmy Lou Harris got her start) and Peter Rowan are a good start. As far as county is concerned you pretty much got to go way back to find anything that is decent or look at underground Nashvile or Austin. Good country exists its just a lot of work to find.
