sounds like a familiar problem for many, I'm a smaller GC and we constantly struggle with finding competent surveyors to the point where we're considering bringing it in house and subbing out to others - not sure what their availability and project size limitations are but BLC Surveying is outstanding for building layout and monitoring.
Never heard of such a thing - in LA, a good surveyor is one that gets you any drawing, in any format. The only competent ones seem to work for large Civil companies like Mollenhauer.

we've used M&G civil engineering several times and never had any problems - very reasonable prices as well
