hrmm... the aerial photos of the Golden Gate Strait do not appear to show any multi-family buildings with standing seam roofs. There are a couple of ugly motel complexes with similar massing strategies, though....
It's always tricky looking at the bridge; this view could be in Marin, looking southwest toward the Presidio, or it could be in the Presidio looking northeast toward Marin.
hint,
above building is in santa barbara, was once owned by steve martin and was designed by one of sci arc's initial faculty who switched careers, became a painter and dropped out of the scene alltogether.
people who attended sci arc in 70's, and historians would know who the architect is.
okay I can't remember who the architect was for that previous post. I must be getting doltish or just old. Anyway...bump
something new to sink your teeth into. For every wrong answer I'll add a new image or other work by the architect. Lets' get this party started right....
the b&w 's i posted were of a house in santa barbara by roland coates who used to teach in sci arc.
the siting of the house was significant with architect lining it up with cosmos related axis' and other spiritual alignments etc.
it was mostly poured in place concrete. there is a book on it but i don't have the information yet.
I'm hanging in there, sort of. All our firm's projects were officially "halted" last week; looks like I might be out of the job as soon as next week. If anyone's hiring, I also mow lawns and can clean the hell out of some dishes, let me know.
The project above isn't French, but in a French speaking city in Switzerland. Here's a close up of the facade:
Name that Architect and Building!!!
ding ding ding
but can you guess who
...bump... (so we can get this back to the top and let those damn political threads sink to the bottom)
i don't know who it is, but i like it. it has a classic bauhaus feel to it.
No idea - post a clue
i see golden mean proportions in there somewhere
(bump me... please? please, bump me? i'm sooo lonely. no one knows me.)

a trivia nowdays...
thanks orhan. my one was the Congreve House by Pip Cheshire of Jasmax - it's a fairly significant house in nz.
i'm picking finland for holz's one.
it's swedish.
city is an anagram for roast
holz - WRB - Island house in Trosa. I like the little guest room they have on the site next to the dock.
Next up
phu, i thought it was a sauna.
good to see you are still alive.
and i have no idea. french?
ah you're right holz. Nice little touch.

damn. that sucks.
what's the function? are we talking a major city (genveve, lausanne) or a minor?
it's a commercial building/car park, firm and building in Lausanne. some others from these guys:
Brauen & Wälchli, commercial building in lausanne.
firm's name sounds like a youth soccer team's age division...
That's it.
I like their Rossi-esc swiss embassy in Boliva (red building above). There's no end to good firms over there. Back to holz
Yeah, show me a crappy suisse architecture practice - that should be difficult...
I'll step in...
Gaudi lizard-skin. We really are in a new world, aren't we. . .
diabase brings it down under - Melbourne Recital Hall by Ashton Raggatt McDougall.
Well done - a big clue is the Eureka Tower reflected. I saw this under construction when I was in Melbourne in March.
Off you go...
oh man, completely blown over for my reference to soccer w/ U15 architectes
Habitation Allemann – Siegriest, Belmont-sur-Lausanne
holz is a sad sad panda.
i'll throw one up in a jiffy...
no prizes for guessing which country this is from
holz, your one reminded me of that Chenchow Little house we saw a few pages back: the long thin slats and the elevation over the site, etc.
p2an, is that a SANAA project?
oh oh oh, it's christian kerez - i love that project!
