Best Archinect quotes?

larslarson

"... And I have never asked you "to remove all [my] accounts, claiming [I] don't want to post on Archinect anymore." What I asked for was to have all my posts removed, which you would not comply with. Voiding the accounts is all you offered."

"I have already expressed the desire to unregister all five of my architect memberships, and I still hold that desire. (The notion of unregistering an Archinect membership, however, seems to be beyond Archinect's capabilities.)

Stephen Lauf"

could we post these two quotes together somehow?

Please send me all of his discussion forum posts, school blogs and news items so that I may use them in derivative works and appropriate them legally within the context of copyright law. I will then compile them all into an anthology titled "A Heaping pile of watery shit: A life's work by Stephen Lauf."

You can then sell it on the Archinect shop. Please donate my advance and future royalties on said work to the Bowel and Cancer Research at the Centre for Academic Surgery, Royal London Hospital.

um, is there anyway you boys can take this outside? I was hoping to find some juicy archinect quotes in here, but instead all I got was a front row seat at the verbal boxing match.

Now that to me is worthy of a quote.

I remember in version 1, about 2002, Philip Gentlemen was getting hassled about some arrogant comments he was making. He started another thread with the opening line:

Hey guys, what's my deal?

For some reason I always remembered that

The archinect crushes thread is full of great classic archinect quotes.

Thank you for this.  I can't stop the cornification.  Soon it will go viral.

"I like the symmetry of "poop"." - Puddles (?) when asked what he/she whould name their firm.

"Didn't like the world, figure'd I'd try and rig up a new one with some of this stuff we have laying around...  Can't sleep anyway." - newstreamlinedmodel when asked why he/she got into architecture

"In the times of the Neanderthals, an architect named Zog created the first man-made dwelling by assembling dry branches into a crude shelter. The shelter was struck by lightning and caught fire, burning Zog to a crisp. Architects have worn black ever since in Zog's memory."
-Staghorn Sumac, regarding why architects wear so much black

In regards to Per, I know him and I have a mixed history on this board, but I'd put the whole damn "Hey All You Fancy Graphics Lovers" thread in 6pt font and put it on a huge wall vinyl.

A "Best Of Vado" section should also be provided so all his song lyric remakes have a home.

where's that thread about why are there so many scantily clad women in that guy's office?

also - there's this, and other random threads by the same person - I liked the love-letter to the ex who read archinect while in a dirty old bathrobe eating M&Ms.

Yay!  I'm back!  And I still can't believe that a discussion of my flowers will make it to New York and I can't come  :o/

I so miss puddles.  Why did he leave us again?  Was it something about porn?

I LOVE the Archinect crushes thread.

Here's another quote submission:

"Anybody want to go outside and make out?

Anybody?

Normally, a necro'd thread has me annoyed, but this one has so many tentacles to the history of this forum, it is joyous.

I still want to know about Wonderk's flowers.

Recipient of my first design challenge, issued after years of continuous harassment. Funny how effective that is at getting rid of posers and assholes.

Great thread, too bad it was before my time.

That's being kind. He's a pompous ass, a blustering fool, a vanity press author of incomprehensible garbage, and a proud copyright violator who has not a single built work. Truly a legend in his own small mind.

Personally, I found him and his little doodles rather insufferably inscrutable (or is it inscrutably insufferable?). Lots of randomly juxtaposed big words and handwavy diagrams to paper over a total lack of substance.

I'm aware that this thread is a decade old at this point, but since it has been brought from dead, here's quote that IMO should be in Archinect Hall of Fame:

Old timer you are irrelevant. Go take your prehistoric ideas about construction to someone who cares. I'm getting bored with all this nonsense. Either add useful information to the thread about the technology or just don't say anything at all. I get it this type of architecture is threatening your lifestyle, we know you are becoming irrelevant within the space. Kit houses are taking away your income stream and it's making you bitter. If you want a shoulder to cry on go find your wife. This is not the place for it. Please, only constructive information to further the conversation regarding the technology.

From thread Gutterless Buildings.

Yesteryear’s archinect is the best archinect...when it had this start-up from a garage kind of feel, now it just feels so much more gentrified it even has its own archinect coffee beans...

Perhaps rando, but I don’t think they are there yet. Maybe if they start shelving archinect coffee in my local grocery store chain…

I'd generally agree, but I don't think I'd call it gentrified. I think the recession had a big effect on the types of posts on the forum. A lot less humor and messing around ... more seriousness and despair. I think the lack of jobs also led to some of us who were new to the profession to realize anonymity was necessary too. Didn't want some old post attached to our name to come up as any little thing that might affect our employability in the future. Even as the economy picked back up, the despair and lack of humor stuck as a lot of the "fun" types had left for other pastures or just didn't have time to mess around on the forum anymore.

The rise of Architecture Twitter certainly sapped some of the irreverence from this place. Hell, the rise of social media in general sapped most of the energy from all of the forums of the old web.
