oh actually it don't matter to me is good too. forgot that one. baby im a want you is good too. i forgot about those two. oh and if is pretty good too. i guess they were good!
Ugh, OK, tonight IF I get my cabinet revision drawings done I will get the song list printed out and a cover made and mail the cd's tomorrow...Steven if you want your copy to go to your house not the office you need to email me your home address as I can't find it! Cris, I do have your address in my gmail somewhere, will find it and send - sorry I'm so slow on this.
Um, embarassing question: Steven, are your cd's for crowbert from the "One" theme, or did I miss a new list and theme in the last couple of pages?!?
I got cd's from Steven last night too, yay! I immediately popped my "One" CD into his mailing box, reversed the addresses, and sent it off.
Cris, your "One" was mailed at the same time - should be there in 3 days. Unfortunately, out of habit, I misspelled your first name on the label - sorry!
I got mine, but I still have not had a chance to go listen through it. I'm doing far too much managing, not enough designing. If I could better transmit thoughts directly to my underlings brains - first off I'd have a lot more underlings - but when I lick that problem, I'll probably get the time to listen to both.
But I still haven't heard from Chili if he liked the one I sent him either, so I am not feeling too guilty.
i called my group of songs al(l)one so that my picks could be thematically related to either 'one' or 'alone'. made it a little easier for me and more interesting: all the songs didn't HAVE to have the word 'one' in them.
I
1 one cup of coffee, glen glenn. 1958. one of my all-time favorite rockabilly songs.
2 place in the country, adam ant. 1982. adam hits as many of my mixes as possible. i'm angling for a re-discovery of one of the most original acts of the 80s!
3 cellphone’s dead, beck. 2006.
4 rehab, amy winehouse. 2007. stephanie called amy winehouse a guilty pleasure. yep, about right. what fun to be tapping your foot along to some swingin' sixtie-ish sounds and hear potty-mouth words for which the shangri-las would have been banned forever.
5 no phone, cake. 2004.
6 out of focus, blue cheer. 1968. these guys, clumsy as they were, paved the way for hard rock that followed. i love them for it. eddie vedder, eat your heart out.
7 mister president, amnesty. 1973. recently released formerly-unreleased tracks from a funk band in funky indianapolis - a group that never really did much else. wonder where they are now?
8 one by one, wilco. 1998. from their woody guthrie tribute with billy bragg.
9 clockwork, cabin. 2004. louisville band from which everybody should hear more! they played a free show on the waterfront a couple of weeks ago.
10 imitosis, andrew bird. 2007. each of his new albums is a new favorite.
11 pyrite pedestal, pretty girls make graves. 2006.
12 natural one, folk implosion. 1995.
13 black sweat, prince. 2006.
14 na na, coke. 1973.
15 see my way, lewis taylor. 2005. this guy's album is freakily reminiscent of both brian wilson and todd rundgren.
16 prescription blues, pajo. 2006. louisville guy! a semi-famous guy you've probably not heard of. lives in my neighborhood.
17 cat claw, the kills. 2003.
18 motel magazine, cricket. 2005. another louisville band!
19 hang on in there, jj johnson + his orchestra. 1972.
II
1 one more cup of coffee, satchel^s pawn shop. 1997. this louisville band is made up of friends of mine. the singer on this track was in architecture for years before he got out and went design/build. he was the contractor for my recent renovation.
2 midnight aspen, the fall. 2005. mark e smith is starting to sound a little like wm burroughs as he gets older.
3 license to confuse, sebadoh. 1994.
4 one part lullaby, folk implosion. 1999.
5 the sound of fear, eels. 2000.
6 a wonderful day in a one-way world, peter gabriel. 1977. i love the lyric of this song. i never think of peter gabriel and drugs together but ???
7 five to one, the doors. 1968.
8 corvette, golden smog. 2006.
9 i am, joseph arthur. 2005.
10 the infinite pet, spoon. 2005.
11 get a shot of the refrigerator, stereolab. 2006.
12 this month, day 10, css. 2006.
13 kiss of the last paradise, pudding. 2003. liberty bell emailed this track to me randomly a couple of years ago. i never knew exactly why she did, but i love it!
14 hot burrito #1, the mavericks. 1999. a great version of a great gram parsons song. (even with the kooky drum track...) raul malo has one of the best voices EVER. look for other versions by raul malo as part of a nashville studio musicians project and elvis costello.
15 the ruling class, loose fur. 2006.
15 tit for tat, world leader pretend. 2005.
16 level, the raconteurs. 2006. since i love the white stripes, getting this one was obvious for me. strange how different songs on the album can sound so much like jack white but also sound like queen and yes!
17 brand of skin, the new folk implosion. 2003. i know, i know, a lot of folk implosion on this mix, but it just seemed a fit. lou barlow (folk implosion, sebadoh, others) is an all-time favorite - and, of course, has louisville connections.
18 never do this again, the m^s. 2006.
19 sit this one out, solomon burke. 2002. this is one of the few mixes that hasn't had joe henry on it. if you don't know joe henry, check him out. he produced this album for solomon burke.
20 one for my baby (and one more for the road), frank sinatra. 1947.
those who got my first mix just about 'one' year ago will notice that i also included a lot of the artists that were on that very first set. thought that would be appropriate, given the anniversary nature of this thing.
Sorry I've been so quiet around here lately. I started my new job a week ago and this week I'm home with the flu. I owe THEAquino an apology for being a lazy ass and not mailing his CD out yet, but I will have it in the mail as soon as I'm feeling better, I promise. I got some great CDs and listened to them all on my road trip last Friday. All excellent mixes. Keep up the good work. Now I have to go read the flood of mapa email in my inbox!
just got 2 cd's from steven... thanks! i wasn't expecting that. crowbert, you're off the hook, although if you send something my way i won't mind. for now, have some listening to do...
liberty bell, i got it! and i must say you've got good musical taste. quite a few of the artists i hadn't heard of, but i listened to the whole thing through without skipping ahead! thanks! =)
and don't worry about the name. it's all good! ha ha, i liked the little note you put on the envelope about it.
I think "summer" is a great theme. Leave it up to the people to decide what reminds them of summer, they will always have their own interpretations anyway. Breakups, hookups, road trips, camiping, drinking, bbq'ing, humidity, the other gender, summer blockbuster movies, bubble gum pop songs...
Just my two cents.
I totally understand Chili.
I am still curious to hear how my One CD treated LB though.
CD Swap!
TheAquino, the CD is done, cover art included. I haven't made it to the post office yet, though. Sorry for the delay, it will be there soon.
Oh, oops, I forgot Everything I Own, which is awesome, and I also like guitar man.
Do keep in mind stale bread makes the best croutons.
i was a sucker for 'best of bread':
it don't matter to me
make it with you
diary
baby i'm a want you
sweet surrender
lost without your love
don't worry crowbert. while there is some 70s music on my discs > no bread.
oh actually it don't matter to me is good too. forgot that one. baby im a want you is good too. i forgot about those two. oh and if is pretty good too. i guess they were good!
of course, i like time in a bottle!
70's music is greater than no bread?
crowbert, your cd's went out yesterday...or day before, i forget...but you should receive very soon.
i apologize for the few typos and for the discs being mismatched, but it was a miracle i even got them out after all my computer drama of the week.
hope you like!
Ugh, OK, tonight IF I get my cabinet revision drawings done I will get the song list printed out and a cover made and mail the cd's tomorrow...Steven if you want your copy to go to your house not the office you need to email me your home address as I can't find it! Um, embarassing question: Steven, are your cd's for crowbert from the "One" theme, or did I miss a new list and theme in the last couple of pages?!?
Baby I'm A Want You is in my head right now.
Liberty Bell you're the only one i care enough to hurt about
That's from the old one. I have to get aml the new one themed one.
yeah i sent crowbert two discs for the one theme. cuz the first disc by itself was lonely.
crowbert i still owe you. what is the next mix. i tell ya every cd i've gotten has been great so far.
ditto.
i'm even learning to like vado's inclusion of 'the king is gone and so are you' which was really the only one i had a problem with at first.
(as much as i love george jones, it's just hard to take a sad song seriously when one of the lyrics is 'yabba dabba doo'.)
well the songwriter couldn't think of anything to rhyme with "you" apparently.
sometime we should have a best of- ie the best songs you've received cd. but not til we are into our fifth or sixth year.
just got 2 number 1 cd's from Steven! will listen tonight!
I got cd's from Steven last night too, yay! I immediately popped my "One" CD into his mailing box, reversed the addresses, and sent it off.
Cris, your "One" was mailed at the same time - should be there in 3 days. Unfortunately, out of habit, I misspelled your first name on the label - sorry!
lb, i remembered to get the "bouncy" cd out of our company car.
I need it tomorrow for my drive to Lexington!!! And I have a copy of One for you too.
i thought you were writing a proposal???
i'll still wait to post the list after crowbert gets his.

...IT is.
its great steven. have the first one in the car and have listened to the second one at the crib.
glad you like, vado. i thought it was funny that both liberty and i had 'spoon' and 'pudding' in our mixes.
sounds like a gsa project
no pressure crowbert, but you know now you have to live up to steven's cd, cause that's the one i would have gotten : )
pushy pushy aml! I haven't even had a chance to listen to Steven's mixes yet - and am only posting because I am waiting for the scanner to be open.
But maybe I'll make dupes of his and pass them off as my own...
Sorry I've been so quiet around here lately. I started my new job a week ago and this week I'm home with the flu. So now that it's summer and the kids are out of school. It'll be time to start a new mix soon. Any thoughts on a theme?
what was the theme last summer? have we already done road trip? [on account of so many people moving]
liberty bell, i got it! and i must say you've got good musical taste. quite a few of the artists i hadn't heard of, but i listened to the whole thing through without skipping ahead! thanks! =)
and don't worry about the name. it's all good! ha ha, i liked the little note you put on the envelope about it.
you'll be getting something soon!
yeah, last summer was summer driving theme, aml. i did a 'city streets' disc and a 'back roads' disc. still listening to them on a regular basis.
how 'bout summer breakup music? there's a HUGE number of breakup songs.
something summery would be great. Summer always invokes the most emotional response to music for me.
yeah. can't top that one. there WAS a time when hall & oates were the bomb.
or how about songs about decisions?
or the other gender.
i could probably even come up with a cd about beer....
I am still curious to hear how my One CD treated LB though.
ok, if you think summer music will be a good choice....
cruel summer
I was thinking more along the lines of summer girls
i don't even like summer.
but vado, sumer is a time for changes
