I was just wondering what people's experience was with printing on A4 here in America. After studying in Europe, I really like the a4 format, but I fear this is a bad idea for a portfolio here in the States. I don't want to be difficult, but I just like the rationality of the size . Any opinions?

you could print larger and cut to size. many people do that anyway to create full bleed sheets.
lulu.com is a self publishing website that will print A4 size in your choice of binding. I'm sure other similar services will accommodate A4 as well.
