apartments.com and rent.com both suck, but better than nothing if craig's doesn't work for you. villagevoice.com is an outside shot. nytimes.com is a possibility too. but for the economically minded, craig's is definitely best. expect some "weirdos" though, and approach with an open mind.
you can try going through a broker and let them know you are interested in a "no-fee" apartment. this means that the bldg/property manager is the one that pays the broker's fee, not you.
