Beginner Laptop Selection

DeanLogan

Newbie student here. Considering the following as a "starter" laptop to run things like CAD, Revit, Sketchup, Vray:

MSI Cyborg 15 - 15.6" 144Hz Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7-12650H, 16GB DDR5, 1TB NVME SSD, Windows 11

$1,159 @ Sam's Club

Yay or nay?

meh, it’ll probably do. You don’t need a power house for school because shiny renderings are no substitute for clever design. A good set of pencils and paper will serve you better.

Coming from a Graphic Design background I totally agree. I'm just looking for for some feedback before I buy the thing.

I’d not consider anything under 17”. Full keyboard with calculator pad is good too but bigger rigs have more heat sinks, sometimes. Bonus points for not asking about a Mac.

Bump the thing up to 32 or 64 gb memory and make sure it has a good graphics card. Otherwise, good to go
