His role will be minimal. At best, he will be hired as a design consultant to the AEC giants that will deliver the project and whose army of technical architects will really run the project.
Social engineering via digital fantasylands where the commercial investment is protected by heavy armaments purchased from the mothership USA. This creates no real society but plenty of seasonal entertainment tourism and real estate. It is not unrelated, these expensive products are often consumed by the genocide-supporting rich. This is the harsh reality of the region. The building hype created by Saudis is not sustainable and awful for the environment. Why do these people think this will bring progress to humanity unless they are part of the scam?
The same assessment is also true for the Line... "part of the scam."

There is a genuine need for RELEVANT architecture and planning in KSA, with their explosive growth in population. That said, these kinds of projects are absolutely worthless
Wiscombe is becoming another Daniel Libeskind. Where Liebeskind's aesthetics are inspired by German Expressionism, Wiscombe substitutes a look derived from '70s and '80s science fiction movies.
Excuse me sir, can you tell me where the public beheadings are being held? Oh next to the floggings of women who wore makeup? Oh I think I passed that earlier. Thanks so much.
It's actually just past the burnt down school that used to teach women.

In the light of the genocide and constant wars being waged on the Arab region by the US and other Western powers, I dont think we have any standing to morally police others. Hence, I restrict my critique to architecture and design.
Anyone can be critical of anyone for anything. Period. You just don't have to listen to it.
If not, no one in this thread would be able to be critical of this design.

In that case, Chad, we should bring about macro geopolitical issues into every project thats showcased in the US, Western Europe etc, but we do not do that. Hence, this critique of a design based on (horrible) cultural practices feels very racist, frankly....and thats the point, perhaps we should stick to architectural cirtique.
He always took his ideas from students at Sci-Arc. Now he wasn’t allowed to approach the school resource, his design naturally gets worse and borders on self parody

This is so damn bad...
Tom Wiscombe's Saudi Project
Meh. It's interesting. I'll reserve final judgement until it's actually built.
*if* it's actually built haha

I guess he's not cancelled in Saudi Arabia?
LOL
I mean, I can’t tell that much from one rendering, but this does not look impressive?
Impressive in a midjourney ai + intern chucking it into rhino kind of way
watch the video, this is just a clip. it's interesting - but seems overdesigned for its modest scale.
interesting in that "there are shaded spaces and its perched on a cliff"
Inspirwd by the Pyramids in Indy?
I like it. It’s a good first year undergrad effort.

Hard to tell what’s going on there.

It kind of reminds me of the original Tron movie. :)
subpar second tier Libeskind that is
just like a theater, it must look horrible and boring in day light, without all the sparks and whistles.

Do whatever you want. You've brought up geopolitical issues on projects in the past.
Really cheesy and aweful work not to mention he couldn’t teach
The models of it on instagram look kinda cool
