Inside vs. Outside

fuzzyturtle

What does Inside vs. Outside mean to you on a philosophical but also architectural level?

The only thing I care about is that there is a constant flow of either coffee or Guinness from outside of my cup/pint to inside of my cup/pint.  Side note, we're not here to do your work so make an effort and figure this shit out on your own.

No idea what or who Kraye is...

but I guess it's from this thread.

not sure why it's being resurrected here.  I'm only interested in coffee and guinness.

Coffee and Guinness are the only things worth being interested in, maybe a building or two on a good day

inside is where the mechanical systems go.  air conditioning the outside is too expensive.

Inside: has vapor barrier

Outside: has no vapor barrier

As to which is which...it's impossible to say.

This goldfish is steering a car over land. Is the fish in water or out of water?

This reminds me now of a Thread I saw: We live in a cold world inside a warm box and inside our warm box we keep another smaller box that we keep cold and another even smaller box that we keep even warmer.

We're a brain sitting in a skull cockpit, piloting a flesh and bone mech suit that keeps us alive. Our bone mech is riding on rock space station that keeps our bone mech alive. The rock space station is hurtling through a vacuum at 67,000 mph. Everything outside of our skull cockpit is trying to kill us, including our mech suite and space station.

Seems more and more to me like it's whatever the local AHJ says it is...

You should be able to draw a continuous line around the entire building section, representing the air control layer. Inside the air control layer is interior. Outside the air control layer is exterior. If you have gaps in the air control layer, you have interstitial spaces that are neither indoors or outdoors. Ideally the other control layers (thermal, vapor, moisture) are directly adjacent to the air control layer but sometimes they aren't, and often they aren't continuous, though ideally they would be.

Philosophically, inside is shelter, outside is exposed to the elements.

When's your assignment due? What do you think the answer is?

Outside/Inside debate < a window

I read that as, "outside/inside debate is less than a window." Is that correct? If so, what does it mean?

In some climates what is inside and what is outside changes with the seasons.

I asked chat gpt to answer your question but write it in the style of Mein Kampf, good luck on your home work comrade

In the dichotomy between inside and outside, philosophically and architecturally, lies a profound tension. Inside represents the known, the familiar, and the bounded, offering security and comfort amidst the chaos of existence. It is the sanctuary where tradition and identity flourish. Conversely, outside symbolizes the unknown, the unbounded, and the realm of adventure and discovery. Architecturally, inside manifests as the crafted sanctuary, while outside serves as the boundary between the known and the unknown, projecting strength and beauty to the world beyond. This perpetual struggle between enclosure and liberation, confinement and expansiveness, encapsulates the essence of human experience, both in philosophy and in the built environment.
