Portfolio Draft 2

Recently posted up my portfolio looking for some feedback. I got a lot of good feedback saying I should spread out my portfolio as it was too clustered, so I've changed the layout from a single sheet to spreads. One thing I want to work on is further explaining my design process, but I'd like to hear back since I got really helpful feedback the last time.

Second Draft

Hopefully I can get some feedback from the people that posted previously

Rusty!

I missed the first time you posted.

I think both versions are good. If you are using this portfolio to get into schools, then use the longer version. For work purposes you should use both. The first one can be called 'short portfolio' (PDF version that can be e-mailed) and the second one would be the one you print out.

One minor objection about both portfolios. Please don't take offense when I say this, but I think you may be colorblind. You seem to fixate on primary colors only toddlers could appreciate.

Also, the feedback you got on your first version was kind of harsh and unwarranted.

Best of luck!

Oh I forgot. Your 'Bike Beacon' project is a weird one. Promoting bicycling in Netherlands is akin to promoting fried chicken in Georgia. It's already everywhere. The building comes complete with ramps steep enough that would be impossible to climb even by professional bicyclists.

The whole project seems a bit naive.

To add to rusty's comments about the Bike Beacon... Your sections need more detail! Right now, all you've shown is a diagram... And while that might be an appropriate way to explain an existing design (or be the point of departure from which the design originates), it's not doing yourself or your project any favours to leave it in such a state. If you showed some floor plans or sections or typical unit typologies that explain the circulation system, how they relate to the outdoors, etc. it would be a far stronger project.
Your axonometrics doesn't even show any windows or doors for heaven's sake!

And that's sort of my critique for the portfolio as a whole. You've got an often interesting idea, but it just doesn't seem carried out to any level of convincing detail. Higher Grounds for instance has three large sections, none of which show anything in particular.

So that's my major critique. Just work on showing the details.
I also have some qualms with the graphic quality of the presentation (way too crammed with info for my tastes), but that's more a matter of opinion perhaps.

I really appreciate all the feedback. I was kind of disappointed with myself after the last draft I did, and it's nice to hear actual criticism. The colors are something I've actually considered recently and will definitely improve on. As for Bike Beacon, the project was done while I did study abroad in the Netherlands, and it was a program requirement to include the bicycle somehow, but the criticism is good nonetheless. Although I laid out where the units themselves would be, I never really got into designing the interior spaces and it's something I could take on on my own time.

My work is definitely a work in progress and I'll be back soon. Thanks and I hope to impress the next time around
