NYP - Eating Disorders Inpatient Unit

As part of the Interim Plan to improve safety features at the Westchester
Campus, the first in-patient unit to be renovated is 2South. This unit, one of the
original patient units was being used most recently as office space for
research. This project was a gut renovation of the entire second floor
of the South Pavilion for use as a specialty unit for in-patients with
eating disorders, one of very few such programs in the USA. The total
renovated area is approximately 12,000 GSF and accommodates a
total of 17 patients, 11 adults and 6 adolescents in segregated sleeping
suites on the floor. The new unit provides an entire wing of shared
program space including exam and consults, rooms for private family
meetings, treatment planning, group therapy, and staff support.
There is a shared dining room with teaching area for food preparation.
Safety upgrades include new polycarbonate safety interior windows,
new toilet rooms with safety fixtures, new doors and anti-ligature
hardware and new safety furnishings. Finishes include new wainscoting,
hardwood floors. The unit also includes an extensive art program
in keeping with the Planetree ideals of NYP.
