New York, NY
daSILVA is providing architectural design services for a new
Montefiore owned building to be built in the Bronx at 2058 Jerome
Avenue. This 28,000 sf building will house administrative offices for
the Department of Social Medicine as well as providing brand new
space for the current OASAS sponsored neighborhood substance
abuse programs. These programs include an ambulatory primary
care clinic, a methadone maintenance program, a New Directions
program for former users and continuing care therapy and treatment
programs for neighborhood clients.
The building will occupy a formerly vacant site along the commercial
strip of Jerome Avenue, close to Burnside Avenue. It is designed
to fit comfortably within the low rise commercial streetscape, adjacent
to the elevated train line along Jerome Avenue. It is designed
with durable contemporary materials including polished and rough
CMU, corrugated and smooth steel panels, glass curtain wall and
aluminum storefront components.
The building occupies the entire west facing street front providing
visibility and light to the interior spaces. A landscaped rear yard
will provide private outdoor space for public and staff program
functions. Clinical functions will occupy the entire first floor. The
second floor will contain waiting space with a dedicated child play
room, consultation rooms and group therapy spaces that may be
combined for larger groups and meetings. The third floor will house
the New Directions program as well as the administrative suite.
The cellar contains building service spaces, staff rooms, storage
and shell space for future programs.
