This concept for a new streetlight for the city of LA simultaneously supports community at the civic and individual scales; its sculptural form is a robust armature to enhance pedestrian life with community signs, benches, and bike racks in addition to the required program. The extruded aluminum profile was engineered to perform better using reecycled material, and less of it, than a standard street pole. As the second-largest street lighting system in the nation, these fixtures touch all communities and demographics via 4500 illuminated — and connected — miles. At that volume, the use of post-consumer waste materials represents an opportunity to change the way our city builds.
