Visitors to the new, 20,300 s.f, four-OR ambulatory surgery center are greeted by warm colors, natural daylight, fireside seating, and an open-air, trellised garden. Operating rooms and recovery bays are flooded with daylight, and patients' windows look out to living walls of roses.
This project incorporated numerous green features including the reduction of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) in the interior finishes and the use of sustainable materials for rubber flooring, cubicle curtains, carpet, and ceiling tile. Locally manufactured products were specified wherever possible, reducing shipping expense and supporting the local economy.
A major focus of the client’s healthy design initiative was the reduction of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) in the interior finishes. Masonry, porcelain, rubber, polyolefin, and polyester were used to create a calming atmosphere, while simultaneously reducing the need for harsh cleaning chemicals and minimizing the overall environmental footprint of the project.
