Originally built in 1904 as a 6 story hotel in downtown, the building featured a glazed brick street façade, and bay windows along the alley. The building had fallen into disrepair, with the bearing stud walls of the interior corridor having settled by as much as 9” at the top floor.
The project consisted of conversion to 88 SRO and efficiency units of special needs housing for Skid Row Housing Trust. The floors were leveled, water-damaged steel columns were replaced, the sheet metal of the bay windows repaired, the historic neon refurbished, and damaged glazed brick replaced. LA Conservancy preservation award, SCANPH project of the year.
