Boyle Hotel

Originally built as a Hotel in 1889, in Boyle Heights. In recent decades the building had fallen into deep disrepair, and served as an apartment house popular with working musicians in the neighborhood, earning the nickname ‘Mariachi Hotel.’ CHM 891. See LA Conservancy.

The project consisted of the rehab of the historic masonry structure, as well as an addition behind the building, providing a total of 51 affordable housing units for East LA Community Corp. An extensive structural retrofit was required, along with repointing of the brick, and recreation of the historic turret, wood storefronts and residential windows. LA Conservancy preservation award, SCANPH affordable housing project of the year.
