    Sketching

Its funny, years ago when I was a secondary school I could draw quite well. I got an A in GCSE Art and most of my work was hand sketches, I can't paint to save my life. After that I didn't really do much drawing and sketching, my A-level subjects were all non-artistic. Maths, Physics, Computing. My skill diminished, I went nearly five years without really lifting pencil to paper.

In my first year of studying, i had to find that skill again, and it was hard work, I knew I could do it, but it was getting back into the swing of things again. It would take me two or three attempts to get a sketch looking how I wanted. Perspectives always used to give me a problem, I found myself creating a 3D model and sketching over the wireframe, a technique that many people use and most probably swear by. But not a technique i'm happy with.

Just lately though I've found that I've got my ability back, I can now consistently produce decent sketches (that I'm happy with). I'm happy now, sketching was something that I've always loved doing and letting it drop was a mistake I shouldn't have made.

Here a little bit of eye candy for your pleasure.

As an update for the rest of life in general, studio is going well, our latest project, the Hull House project, has been going well, it started off quite slowly, because the approach to the project has been different to what I've been conditioned to working in office, but now i've got over that hurdle and my brain is free thinking a lot better than it was. The full-timers had their crits last week, with us present, there are some good guys guys and gals on the course, and the basis of some good work was shown. Unfortunately, there are some people who make me wonder if they are really commited to architecture at all, their approach and work just doesn't show the enthusiam for the subject, I think the numbers will drop considerably at the end of this year. I definately think that the staff will be asking a lot of student were they see themselves going.

We however as part-timers have four more weeks to complete the Hull project, so as the deadlines loom, productivity will go into overdrive.

    Till then

    D
