    An Apology...

    By Darren Hodgson
    Sep 5, '05 4:01 AM EST

In some of my posts I have made comments about the structuring of my course, its initial disorganisation, reasonings about deadlines, and the occasional comment about my lecturer (none of which were derogatory). These posts were made towards the start of the year, and i'm pleased to say all the issues have been resolved, taken into account, and the reasons behind some decisions are now understood.

Unfortunately, my lecturer has since discovered my blog and read these posts, he has since emailed me and told me that he is disappointed with the fact that i did not speak to him personally about these issues, and that this has changed his opinion about myself as a person, my attitiude to the course and how i felt about the course quality.

I am upset with myself that this has happened, as i respect my lecturer, and I am extremely grateful for the time he has invested in myself and the other students. He is an extremely good lecturer, and I hold in high regard his opinion of myself, and feel bad that my posts have clouded this opinion and I have let him down.

I know realise that it is too easy to post a comment without actually thinking about the consequnces, or the effect it may have on other people.

I am truly sorry that I have changed the judgement that my lecturer made about myself, when his judgement was correct in the first place.

I have apologised to my lecturer via email and will do so personally when I see him next. I am hoping that he will accept and we can sort this out as i do not like people having a wrong opinion about me.

    Carlos I am sorry...

Just be happy that you are one of those individuals that have lived up to the mistake. I see so many people that are faced with similar situations and promptly begin the road to chronic complaining. It's difficult to learn it the hard way (as I did also) but it is worth it. Good luck in the future. -megs

      you didn't make any mistake.
why should you apologize for a log of your personal feelings and ruminations of current happenings? if i was your lecturer, i would be proud about the fact a student of mine is open enough to put themselves out there for all to see.
your blog is an absolutely valid glimpse of the way YOUR world is seen through YOUR eyes at a particular time in history. it is a great way to see your growth in thought, maturity , etc.
if your lecturer wasn't so insecure, maybe they could learn something from you.

i agree, not an error to write about your life even if it is associated with a public institution. your prof may be a great guy and teacher but the new reality is that things which were once hidden are being exposed to public view whether we like it or not. That he doesn't like your opinion is understandable but that he reacted the way you describe rather small minded.

on the other hand it maybe more useful to talk to the prof directly if something needs to be fixed next time round...

      Thanks for your comments guys...

The issue here is not about what I wrote, it is more to do with the fact that I did not speak to my lecturer about these issue first... That is what upset him... Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and even he knows that.

The moral of the story is if you have a problem, talk to someone about it rather than broadcast it to all and sundry online...
