Matter Design, founded by FABLab director Wes McGee and MIT instructor Brandon Clifford, has been featured in Architect Magazine’s Next Progressive column. In the interview published in the January 20 issue the team discussed their views on design approach, digital fabrication, and historical precedent.

McGee and Clifford approach design with the intent of questioning and furthering architectural theory. The firm is a digital one at its core, with the vital caveat that anything designed also be physically built as well. Read the Next Progressives article on Architect Magazine’s website.

Funded through the Howard E. LeFevre ’29 Emerging Practitioner Fellowship at Ohio State University’s Knowlton School of Architecture, Le Voûte de LeFevre is a pure-compression structure designed with custom simulation software to determine aperture sizing.
