    LECTURE: SONIA HIRT

    Sonia Hirt, PH.D '03, M.U.P. '95, will deliver a lecture November 11 at 6:00 pm in the A+A Building Auditorium, entitled "LANDSCAPES OF POSTMODERNITY: CHANGES IN THE BUILT FABRIC OF CENTRAL-EAST EUROPEAN CITIES SINCE THE END OF SOCIALISM." 

    Sonia Hirt is a scholar of urban form who studies how cultures and institutions interact with the built environment. Hirt is currently a Professor of Urban Affairs and Planning at the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech, where she also serves as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.  In 2011, while on sabbatical from Virginia Tech, she was Visiting Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, where she taught Urbanism in Europe and served as design critic. Hirt is the Co-editor of the Journal of Planning History and is author of numerous books including her most recent, “Zoned in the USA: The Origins and Implications of American Land-use Control” (Cornell University Press, 2014; in press). Hirt holds Master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan.
