INFRASTRUCTURE IN NEW YORK CITY

This studio started with a work of redefining the concept of the US-Mexico border wall as well as a new type of sports stadium in the center of New York City. Designing stadium typically requires huge unused land and mass transit to be connected to the urban fabric. However, there is a lack of space for the traditional stadium in NYC.

This project is trying to propose a new concept of wall for the stadium to make itself actively engage with the city rather than be isolated. The stadium and its tracks designed based on kinetical principals of cycling and BMX game, which was a generative method of spatial design. The information collected within the stadium and tracks would be a source for bikers to test a various way of performance on the different tracks. In addition to the new type of internal system of a stadium, spiral tracks on the stadium connecting to the bridge serve as not only a dynamic track but also a direct access to Roosevelt Island; the stadium serves as a (social)-infrastructure.
