ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO 7-8: DANCE CENTER

Course’s  main objective was the study of a building, in the centre of Athens, dedicated in the projection and the teaching of dance. We called this building “Center of Dance” and we connected its purpose, (for reasons of more precise report) with the “Greek Chorodrama”, a cultural organism intended to strengthen the growth of dancing expression in our place
The basic idea was to arrange the building on an upper level, creating on the ground level a space open to the public, in order to attract the youth of the region and make them interested to the dance. We decided to place many of the functions in the underground with a view to let the ground floor free. We wanted to create an open space that is addressed to anyone. The building therefore has one piece on the first floor and one underground piece as well as an open public space in the ground floor.
The building is a mixted construction. On the one side, It consists of a block made of reinforced concrete  which houses the foyer, the staircase and the changing rooms of the dance school. On the other side, there is a metal trellis that gets in the concrete volume and hosts the dance halls, the Secretariat and the dance team’s locker rooms. The trellis is based on 6 columns, a wall of reinforced concrete and is suspended from the roof of the concrete volume.
