The New Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Education Center located at LaGuardia Community College, Center 3 Building provides the opportunity for small business owners to learn the tools to grow their businesses on an Ivey League curriculum. Ahuja Partnership Architects (APA) has designed the Center to reflect the atmosphere and setting of international business. Materials, details and technology throughout the Center are found in corporate offices throughout the world. The design reflects the serious commitment of Goldman Sachs.
Long distance vistas of the breathtaking views of Manhattan and rapidly expanding Long Island City Skyline are accomplished with maximum transparency. You approach the centers entry which consists of floor to ceiling glass doors and sidelights and are able to see beyond the reception desk and waiting area typical of an office tower, to the building windows beyond. There are nine (9) offices along the building perimeter. The offices with high ceilings have a combination of clear and translucent glass office front wall permitting daylight to spill farther into the center and provide glimpses of the views through the windows beyond. The offices are provided with individual temperature control. The offices, waiting area, reception entry and corridors are unified with a terrazzo floor finish of a rich color matrix.
You approach the Meeting rooms along a wide corridor with a full wall media display along one side and the glass fronted office along the other wall. The display consists of multiple large screen monitors which can be programmed for individual messages, combine for a large images and be interactive. The two meeting rooms, one large room for 48 students and a small room for 24 students, can be opened as one room by way of a sound proof movable partition, creating a total of 2,370 square feet, and can be seen through floor to ceiling glass walls and doors as you approach. The meeting room is situated to take maximum advantage of the views of Manhattan. The meeting room or class room have 80 inch diagonal touch screen monitors located along multiple walls for ease of viewing. Technology will allow the entrepreneurs to simultaneous view the monitors from their mobile devises and their seats and the class can be recorded for future reference. The space is large to permit the educators to move freely. The ceiling design feature defines the rhythm of the building structure with low wood soffit running from the building perimeter to a corridor beyond the meeting room. The ceilings between the soffits are higher with large scale acoustical ceiling panels. The ceiling directs you to the monitors.
There are four (4) Break Away Rooms approximately 175 square feet each beyond the Meeting Rooms. A white board is provided along the back wall of the room. The rooms have movable partitions between each room which can open to one large space. Two of the rooms have full height frameless sliding glass doors to permit quite conversation when the movable partition is in place. The Meeting Rooms and Break Away Rooms will have blue carpet a nod to Goldman Sachs. The wood theme used in the soffit extends to these rooms as columns and walls.
The Center ancillary rooms include copier room, storage, closets, pantry, IT room and mechanical spaces.
Along with the Center the public corridor approaching the center will receive new ceilings and light fixtures, floor and wall finishes.
The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Education Center is approximately 10,000 square feet. With a budget of $4 million.
