The project of these terraced houses is located in Villanova, a historic district in the city of Cagliari. The urban contest is high-density with many terraced houses, often interrupted by multi-functional buildings. Urban lots are long and narrow and the main elevations of houses face the street so it’s really closed with a few windows. Whereas the opposite facades of the houses face the back court or inner yard.
The project area is on the top of a steep slope so on one side it is opened to the East city view, on the other facing the Via San Saturnino is closed with a wall, which has an historic value.
The design idea aims to reproduce the main characteristic of the contest and the architectural feature of the wall (its continuity and height) in order not to change the historic perception of this area and not to reduce the solar light.
