A 5,000 square foot Urgent Care Clinic in suburban Philadelphia, the clinic has a staff of 14 and provides care for 14-20 people at any given time. Research into medical and treatment errors, as well as code compliance, informed the needs of the clinic.
Acoustical controls were layered in public spaces to protect patient privacy and in staff areas to control noise levels to maximize accuracy and productivity.
Clear wayfinding and legible circulation were provided for the patient to prevent staff interruption which can lead to errors. Wayfinding devices include floor color and pattern change, and matching 3form resin panel motifs inside and outside each exam room.
The creation of a center core of decentralized nursing provides acoustical privacy while keeping the staff in close proximity to the patient. Staff path of travel was minimized to improve patient information retention and prevent fatigue.
A soothing finish palette that evokes a feeling of cleanliness, freshness, and nature was developed to reduce stress and anxiety on both patient and staff.
Furniture selections cater to a variety of body types including juvenile, bariatric, and the aging populations but are intertwined with each other as not to segregate people.
