New York, NY
This informal cabin in the woods suffered from dark and poorly constructed thoughtless additions over the years. The need for handicap access precipitated the expansion and re-arrangement of the circulation and rooms starting with a new skylight over the refurbished stairway. The bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living and entry areas radiate from this light filled central core. Horizontal clear pine planks finished with a specialized wax and stain system offer brightness and coordinate with the antique pine paneling in adjacent areas. Custom Ash cabinetry, rustic stone slabs and a refined use of natural materials and calm palettes are employed throughout the project.
