Fidenza Village

Fidenza Village, located south of Milan is one of the most imaginative shopping environments in all of Europe.  Because the project is located near the childhood home of the beloved Italian Opera Composer, Giuseppe Verdi, the project’s design is based on an invented history of the conversion of an 18th-century estate into a 20th-century film studio, which created productions of Verdi operas.

The “stage sets” depicting the Verdi operas are shown added to the simple, charming and timeless agrarian sheds located on the original Italian estate.  Owing to the range of sets required for Verdi’s various operas, there are several stage set sub-districts, including: a Mediterranean port town, for Don Carlo and Il Trovatore, that was inspired by “Grazzano Visconti,” a nearby make-believe medieval village, an Egyptian port town for Aida and Nabucco, that was inspired by the Egyptian lighthouse and the movie set from Cleopatra and finally the Studio Centrale, inspired by the Paramount Studios in Hollywood.

Phase 1 was completed in 2003.  Phase 2 was completed in 2008.  Phase 3 was completed in 2013.  JRDV is currently working on the design of Phases 4 and 5, meaning that JRDV will have worked on the project for well over 20 years.
