JRDV Urban International was the lead-architect and planner for City Green a mixed-use project including a large multi-level retail center, 300 residential units, office building, 300-room hotel and extensive roof gardens.
The project is the social heart of the Wuzhong district a new dense urban area of Suzhou, China, a city of now 15 million people. The project is the antithesis of the “typical mall” as it establishes a pedestrian environment with the architectural variety, integration with nature, and pedestrian integration recalling the historic Chinese water towns found nearby.
City Green includes many unique design features including iconic 3- level bridge connecting two city blocks, dramatic views over Taihu Lake, an interior bird park and roof top park and indoor electric go-kart racetrack. It also includes something rarely found in China: Above grade parking, that improves not only the customer experience in the garage, but also allows better views out over the water.
JRDV is responsible for the overall master plan, exterior elevations and major public interior spaces.
