Located at the intersection of two major thoroughfares Spring Garden Street and Ridge Avenue, the design team was given a unique opportunity to revive the prominent corner location. Since as early as 1916, the buildings on site have been banks with an impressive tower facing the intersection. The site’s history inspired the corner clock tower and industrial-chic, art deco interior detailing, giving the design an upscale but traditional feel. The design of the new seven-story, 46-unit building takes cues from the more traditional details and proportions of the surrounding older buildings and combines them with a more contemporary aesthetic to create a building that will set the standard for new development in this area. In a neighborhood known for its murals, a recent installation called Folding the Prism on a neighboring building literally shaped the design of this project, as the designers detached the building and left a 15-foot slot to preserve the art. The ground floor facade on Ridge Avenue will feature a new mural that frames the residential entrance, further tying the building into the established neighborhood.
