The Point neighborhood in Newport is a residential area with three parks two of wich are in the waterfront. Storer Park is the biggest open space of the Point and is a location with great historic value. It is a place that welcomes the guests that come from the Visitor Center and head towards the seafront. They are fascinated by the park and usually spend some of their time there. Moreover, Storer Park is a wonderful spot for the residents of the area as it is an attractive public green space. Therefore, I believe that this part of the neighborhood has the potential to accommodate a new program. The concrete platform that lays in the park provides some great views of the Hunter house, which is currently a museum, the bridge and the Goat Island. Taking this into account, I would like to reuse the pier and introduce a pavilion to the neighborhood that will provide gathering spaces, a library, an auditorium and sitting areas. The structure will have three levels and will be formed based on the existing design of the park and the pier. The proposed pavilion will be made of glass in order to give the impression of a transparent volume and at the same time to make emphasis on the views of the neighborhood.
