For an independent school in Brooklyn, 1100 Architect designed a collaborative STEAM laboratory, additional classrooms for arts and sciences, and faculty office space, to accommodate the school’s evolving curriculum and growing enrollment. The STEAM facility allows students to engage in an exploratory and hands-on learning experience. The daylit space includes a robotics lab, makerspace, and fabrication shop, offering students the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and develop practical critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
1100 Architect also created a new Upper School Library and reconfigured the Lower School Library. The flexible cross-disciplinary learning environments array stacks, media labs, collaborative areas, and private reading space in an efficient and cohesive plan. Several large windows and skylights located above a green wall allow ample daylight to enter the space.
Each of these renovations were phased so as not to disrupt the school’s normal operations throughout the academic year.
